I’m Terrified. You Should Be Too.

With each passing day, it looks more and more like we’ll have replacement referees in the NBA for at least a portion of the ‘09/10 NBA season. As it stands now, referees from the WNBA, NBA Summer League and D-League affiliates would step in to fill the gap. On the surface, it might not seem like as big of an issue as it was in 1995.

I’m here to tell you it is, and why you should be panicking. Read More »

5 Players I Love to Hate, But I’d Still Want Them on My Team

When Bruce Bowen retired, I became fraught with emotion.

On one hand, I absolutely couldn’t wait for that dude to get the heck out of the League so I’d never have to see or hear about him again; nobody puts Baby Steve Nash in a corner or knees him in the gonads on my watch. However, I also couldn’t help thinking that if I were a Spurs fan (I’m laughing as I type this since I can’t say that with a straight face), I’d be pretty bummed that Bowen is no longer on my team. This led to an enlightenment of sorts – are there any players that I (from a fan perspective) can’t stand, but would welcome them with open arms on my favorite team? Why Didn’t Chris Paul’s Amazing Season Get More Attention?

While writing my portion of the Chris Paul vs. Tony Parker debate, it really got me thinking – how in the hell was Chris Paul not reasonably considered for the 2008-09 Most Valuable Player?

The 08/09 Most Valuable Player was a three-horse race between LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade. However, their play and respective team’s success unfortunately overshadowed Chris Paul’s; one of the best individual seasons by a point guard in the history of the NBA. Read More »

I Love You Ricky Rubio

With any luck, we won’t have to hear about Ricky Rubio for a long while. Let me start by saying that my reasoning for not drinking the Rubio Kool-Aid has nothing to do with Ricky Rubio the person. Rather, it’s predicated by the second-hand hype he’s received that is based largely on three things: Read More »

Ben Gordon: “In Detroit, I’ll Be Able to Do More Than Just Score.”

Detroit is hurting.

With the automobile industry virtually collapsing, the Motor City has seen its unemployment rate fluctuate close to 20% in any given month. Thousands of homes and businesses are left abandoned, and there is little light at the end of the tunnel for many families.

To make matters worse Detroit’s sports franchises, which have always been a source of hope and enthusiasm for the city, have struggled mightily. The Lions failed to win a single game in 2008, the Red Wings heartbreakingly lost in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2009, and the Tigers have consistently disappointed. Needless to say, a once glorious city is in the midst of destruction and despair. Read More »
