Daniel Avery’s ‘Slow Fade’ Is The Return From The Dark Ambient Producer We’ve Been Waiting For

London-based producer Daniel Avery has announced the follow up to his 2013 debut album, Drone Logic, with the release of a new EP called Slow Fade, which is streaming today. You can hear the title track above.

The EP arrives as the first taste of new material from the enigmatic producer. Its title track will be featured on Avery’s sophomore album, Song For Alpha, which is due out this spring.

“Slow Fade” is aptly titled. It begins with a wandering synth melody which cuts through a foggy ambience. It gradually builds until the synth and the drum beats to lock in step with one another, giving the song some forward momentum while lush and airy synth melodies wash over the rest of the track.

In the five years since his debut, Avery has released a number of singles and done remixes for the likes of Primal Scream and Factory Floor. in 2017 he joined forces with former Nine Inch Nails collaborator (and techno producer in his own right) Alessandro Cortini for a 7” called Sun Draw Water.
