I think at this point, Amar’e Stoudemire is all but gone from Phoenix. As I mentioned in an article last week, it’s unlikely that Stoudemire and the Suns are going to agree on an extension that will satisfy both parties. Plus, there’s plenty of speculation that Amar’e wants to bolt to a bigger market anyway. Now that the divorce is inevitable, the question now remains: Which zip code will STAT relocate to? Deron Williams is definitely full of surprises. Ninety percent of the time, D-Will makes the simple play: The layup instead of the dunk or the bounce pass instead of the behind-the-back. But every now and then, D-Will let his hair down (especially if it’s against a team like the Nets) and do some And1-mixtape-worthy-type stuff on the court. Up 29 points in the third quarter against New Jersey on Saturday night, Williams dropped this ridiculous fake behind-the-back, then wrap around pass to Carlos Boozer for the easy lay in. Read More »
Last week, there was a heated debate going on in the comment section of our site whether Pau Gasol deserved to be an All-Star this season. While a lot of people defended the Lakers’ center, there was A LOT of resentment towards Gasol by our readers. One reader, Mark, wrote this:
“Anybody who says Gasol deserves to be in the All Star over Z-Bo or Kaman probably voted for Allen Iverson to be a starter. Gasol’s good personal stats in consideration, I don’t see anybody missing 40% of the season (as of today) deserving of an All Star slot.”
Lets face it, the public is not exactly thrilled with this year’s dunk contest field. After LeBron declared at last year’s All Star Weekend in Phoenix that he was going to enter the 2010 contest, a lot of fans were let down when his name wasn’t announced as a participant last Monday. With Dwight Howard also MIA, this year’s field definitely lacks some star power. Read More »

Yesterday, I put together a list of my picks for the league’s five best backcourts. Although the Sacramento Kings’ explosive backcourt of Kevin Martin and Tyreke Evans didn’t make the cut, they were strongly considered. The two haven’t played together much since Martin missed 32 games this season due to an injured left wrist and Evans is just a rookie. But the thought of a backcourt consisting of two young, 20-plus point scorers is scary. The question is: Is it feasible? Read More »
If you don’t ask, you don’t get. That’s the slogan Stephen Jackson apparently lived by when he asked out of Golden State over the summer. His choice to publicly demand a trade made his life a living hell for the first few months of the season. On top of being fined by the league, Jackson went through a messy divorce with the Warriors organization and became the hottest topic in the basketball media for the first quarter of the season. It seems like all the best sportscaster jobs go to former players and coaches. While most are definitely talented and deserve to be there, it does make it a little tougher for the Average Joe to break in. But that didn’t stop Gus Johnson. Gus is somebody who climbed up the broadcasting ranks the hard way. After graduating from Howard University, the Detroit native started off working for several local TV stations around the South. Today, Johnson is not only one of the top play-by-play broadcasters in the country, but he is also one of the hardest working. Read More »
The best one-two punches on a team aren’t always a big man paired with a small guard. Sure Stockton and Malone and Magic and Kareem, were two of the greatest combos in league history. But the league has had some pretty damn good backcourts over the years, from Isiah and Joe Dumars to Chauncey and Rip. Read More »
Is there a particular reason why Chris Kaman gets no love? You can argue that the Los Angeles Clippers big man is the most dominant center in the West right now, yet he rarely gets press and he damn sure gets no fan love. As of the latest All-Star voting results, Kaman was not even in the top 10 of centers in the West despite averaging 20.4 ppg, 9.3 rpg and 1.4 bpg for the season. Read More »
