Entourage may be one of the most unrealistic television series of all time. In the final episode last night, Vince got married, Ari revived his broken marriage, and Sloan and Eric got back together. Let’s be honest: Life does not always have a happy ending. And most of the time, neither do basketball careers. That is why basketball players should not model their career after Vincent Chase. The last time the San Antonio Spurs were in the lottery, they were selecting a young man named Tim Duncan with the first pick in the 1997 NBA Draft. Ever since then, they have been one of the past decade’s most successful teams by winning four NBA championships.
Nowadays, the Spurs organization is faced with a problem they have not faced for fourteen years: to rebuild or not to rebuild. Read More »

The NBA Draft is simply the most important time of the year for rebuilding franchises. Just ask the Portland Trail Blazers. Whether it is the next Michael Jordan or Kevin Durant or the next Sam Bowie or Greg Oden, we are out to identify the legitimate prospects from the phony ones. Every week, we will deliver a profile of a top prospect and break down their game. We will give you player comparisons, ratings (on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being NBA Rookie of the Year caliber and 1 being overseas caliber), outsider opinions on the prospects, and much more. Last we had BYU’s Jimmer Fredette, and next up is Arizona forward Derrick Williams. Read More »

Hardcore basketball fans complain about the one-and-done rule a lot, but they do not always realize the implications of each situation. Basketball is a business. Sure, everyone wants to achieve greatness and bask in the glory, but it simply is not possible for everyone. Not everyone’s family has the type of financial support that enables them to play in college for four years. Read More »

Think you have seen a gym rat before? You haven’t seen until you’ve met Mike Slonina, a senior at Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury, Mass. Even Larry Legend would do a double take at this kid. Slonina, however, never played one game of high school basketball. After a misdiagnosed ankle injury, his career was cut short and he never got to play. Instead, he was the team manager. His life took another hard turn when his mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Slonina decided he would take matters into his own hands and raise money for the cause. This was no usual fundraiser though. Slonina decided to shoot a basketball for 24 hours straight. Read More »

It’s not a typical occurrence to we hear the Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics in the same sentence. You couldn’t get two teams that are more different. One plays a slow, grind-it-out tempo with an emphasis on defense and the other likes to run and score over 100 points in every game they play. The owner of the Warriors, however, wants to take a similar approach to the one that the Celtics took in putting together a championship team in 2008. Read More »
