The West Region is the cause for millions of brackets being busted. With No. 1 seed Gonzaga, No. 3 seed New Mexico and No. 4 Kansas State all eliminated, Ohio State is the only team that has held its seeding and reached the Sweet Sixteen. The NBA is notorious for having a small number of teams with realistic championship expectations. While nearly half of the NFL can claim to be in the running, the NBA normally only has a handful of true contenders. The Heat, Thunder and Spurs have all established themselves as frontrunners to be playing into June, but there is another interesting group below them of teams that have shown the capability of playing with the elite. Twenty-seven years ago the Chicago Bulls faced the same problem they face today: when to bring back a superstar from injury. They took a cautionary route with Michael Jordan’s foot injury then and are doing the same thing now with Derrick Rose’s return from a torn ACL [Watch Rose dunk in pregame warmups yesterday]. Jordan returned from his October injury in mid-March and Rose appears to be on pace for a similar return date. Read More »
