J.R. Smith never found his groove in the playoffs, but during the regular season, he accomplished what no one else in the league did: have two of the 10 best alley-oops of the year. But the best alley-oop of the season could also be a contender for best of all time: Gerald Green‘s mixtape-style finish on a fast break against Houston. Read More »

You had to be either stupid or a blind Magic fan to believe Dwight Howard‘s flirtation with moving on from Orlando ended at the trade deadline. If anything, it only dragged out what I think is inevitable at this point. The Magic cleaned house on the bench and in the front office yesterday, letting Stan Van Gundy go and agreeing to part ways with GM Otis Smith . And yet, the team’s All-Star center still wants out. Brian Cardinal tweeted last night that Kobe was 10 assists away from a double-double. As funny and accurate as that diss was, we can’t fault the Mamba for going at it solo last night. Andrew Bynum didn’t show up. Pau Gasol had the most invisible 16-rebound game I’ve ever seen. Ramon Sessions looked like Derek Fisher out there. Meanwhile, Bryant turned back the clock, and might’ve had more dunks last night than he had in any game this year. Read More »

One hundred of the most talented players from the DMV area were together in one gym in downtown Washington D.C. this weekend for the 2012 Red Bull Midnight Run. There was NBA D-Leaguer Mike Anderson, who flew in from Europe the day before to attend, Baby Shaq, the almost legendary streetball player, Corey Allmond, the man who once broke the Rupp Arena record for triples in one game and even John Wall, who came in to help judge the talent. For all of the players, it was a chance to stake their claim to being the best in the region while also getting treated like royalty by Red Bull. Read More »

It didn’t take long for the Orlando Magic to make a move regarding their coach, Stan Van Gundy. Reports are indicating that Van Gundy, who was closing in on five years since being hired in Disney World, has been relieved of his duties as the team’s coach. General Manager and President of Basketball Operations Otis Smith has also mutually agreed to part ways with Orlando. Read More »

Every team believes they have unfinished business when they go down in a playoff sweep. It’s too sudden. Losing four in a row wraps the season up quite nicely, and everyone is left searching for excuses and answers. When you have the game’s most explosive power forward and one of the best pure point guards in the last 20 years, no one is expecting the broom… even if you are the Clippers, even if you had injuries piled higher than Barkley‘s dinner plate and even if your coach is Vinny Del Negro. Kyrie Irving has done some cool stuff with Pepsi MAX in the past, but nothing like this. Remember those old “The LeBrons” commercials? Tell me Irving couldn’t pull off something like that. Here he is teaching the young fellas a thing or two as an old man known simply as “Uncle Drew.” Irving actually wrote and directed this short clip himself. Watch as Uncle Drew shuts down the Clark’s Pond Courts in Bloomfield, N.J. Read More »
