The Top 10 Losers Of NBA Free Agency

Omer Asik Blocks Dwyane Wade At The Rim, Comes Back Bloodied

For every loser, there must be a winner. Yesterday we brought you the top 10 winners of NBA free agency, and so today we’re bring you it’s counterpoint: the top losers. For what it’s worth, some teams really did try to win (Toronto), while others reminded us why the owners need to be protected from themselves. All in all, it was fun – the topsy turvy he said/she said emotional chess match of Jeremy Lin‘s restricted free agency, the more simplisitic, checkers-like decision of Deron Williams. But with a heavy heart, we bring you those losers. Read More »

It would appear that any cracks that may exist in the Kevin Durant/Russell Westbrook relationship are not going to result in Russ leaving town any time soon. Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that the Oklahoma City Thunder signed Russell to a five-year, $80 million contract extension last night. Read More »

Dime’s 2011 NBA Free Agent Tracker

Andrei Kirilenko

Andrei Kirilenko

Whereas last summer reshaped the NBA and as a byproduct of that, helped usher in the extended lockout, the upcoming abbreviated free agency period won’t include a single franchise player. There are probably no future Hall of Famers available. Hell, there might not even be a single All-Star out there. But what is being given up will be replaced in a frenzy. The signings and player movement will be fast and furious, and without any sure things, there will be plenty of opportunities to criticize GMs who panic and throw ridiculous contracts at simply average players. Phoenix Suns Sign Michael Redd

Michael Redd

Last night, I watched my Sixers maul the worst Phoenix Suns team in recent memory. They’re just awful. Poor Steve Nash – after abusing Jrue Holiday the first handful of times down the court, disappeared into one of the least-effective performances of his career (four points on 2-11 shooting, one assist, six turnovers in 17 minutes).

Much of that can be blamed on a rotten supporting cast. Help is (sort of) on the way though, as the Suns just signed Michael Redd to a one-season free agent deal. Read More »

Nate Robinson: “One Team’s Trash Is Another Team’s Treasure”

Nate Robinson

As you can imagine, everyone at Dime HQ doesn’t always agree on everything. And this is particularly the case when it comes projecting a player’s future. We all think we have what it takes to be an NBA GM, and we’ll go to bat for the players we believe in. But if there’s one player that sticks out from the pack from endless debates on Broadway, it’s Nate Robinson. Read More »

Nets To Sign DeShawn Stevenson

DeShawn Stevenson NBA Nets

The Nets are doing their best to fill out their roster and surround Deron Williams and Brook Lopez with as many able pieces as possible. This week they’ve signed Public Enemy No. 1 to bolster their frontcourt, and this morning comes word that they have reached a deal with free agent DeShawn Stevenson.

So why did they move to sign a 30-year-old swingman who has been on five teams in 12 seasons to add to their already-crowded backcourt? Read More »

Mike D’Antoni & The Knicks Finally Get Their Three-Point Shooter

New York Knicks

What made Mike D’Antoni and the Phoenix Suns such a threat in the Western Conference was the fact that he had an arsenal of shooters at his disposal. But when D’Antoni first arrived in New York, his best three-point threat was Al Harrington. That’s not good. Last year, Toney Douglas was the only player on the Knicks to hit more than 100 three-pointers, finishing the season with 143. They also had sharpshooter Andy Rautins on the roster, but never used him. Finally, it appears D’Antoni has found his man. Read More »

We don’t blame you if you have tuned out the Dwight Howard trade saga. It’s been going on for weeks now and it seems to change every day. Actually, a bunch of readers have told us they’re not paying attention until it actually happens. We may be at that point.

Our friends at Lakers Nation posted a report tonight that Lakers play-by-play announcer John Ireland has been told by a source that the deal for Howard could be done as early as tomorrow (Tuesday). Now before you laugh or blow it off Read More »
