Video: Jeremy Tyler Blows Up A D-League Game With A Huge Dunk

Jeremy Tyler

Jeremy Tyler is more known for the winding way he’s arrived at basketball courts around the world than what he’s done on them to this point. The player who skipped his senior year of high school in San Diego to play in Israel and then Japan has bounced back and forth between Golden State and its D-League affiliate, Santa Cruz, for the past two seasons. The dunk he pulled off on Dec. 23 against Bakersfield needs no introduction, however. Just watch. Read More »

Video: Amar’e Stoudemire Tests His Knee In The D-League

Amar'e Stoudemire

So much of the attention paid to Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire this summer was on his training with post guru Hakeem Olajuwon. The pair’s workouts in Houston were dissected for improvements in the back-to-the-basket skillset of Stoudemire, long a forward more comfortable with a two-step running start than a traditional entry pass. It feels like deja vu now, five months later, to watch Stoudemire’s brief, newest workout tape to look for insight into his recovery from left knee surgery. This time, it’s not with a two-time world champion big man, though: It’s with the Erie BayHawks. Read More »

Video: Lil B Tries Out For The Warriors’ D-League Team

Lil B Warriors

Lil B is¬†known for both his role as the self-proclaimed Based God and for his other claim that he’s created thousands of songs. If you’ve paid even scant attention to hip-hop you’ve probably seen his ALL CAPS Twitter handle weave its way into your timeline and seen his solo star rise ever since “Vans” came out in 2006. But on the basketball court can he run in a different kind of Pack and create plays? That’s what he, and we, are still dutifully trying to uncover after he tried out for Santa Cruz’s D-League team, the Warriors, Monday in Aptos, Calif. Read More »

Eduardo Najera Wants To Take The NBA To A Place It’s Never Been

Eduardo Najera

That picture of Eduardo Najera is looking a little old right now. Not only is he back in the fold with the Dallas Mavericks, the NBA’s first-ever Mexican born player has traded in the jersey for the suit. There hasn’t been much reason to think about the 36-year-old Najera lately, especially as he finished his 12-year career in dismal Charlotte the last two seasons. Now he gets to step into a very interesting role as head coach and part-owner of the D-League’s Texas Legends and an unspecified role with Dallas GM Donnie Nelson. It sounds pretty cool and with a lot of latitude for one of the league’s “good guys.” He’s not thinking small-ball, though: He wants to ultimately bring a franchise to Mexico. Read More »

This past season, the NBA Development League broke their previous record with 50 NBA call-ups and 64 NBA player assignments. But there was one player who was left off the NBA call-up list, despite averaging 23.7 points per game and carrying his L.A. D-Fenders to the D-League Finals. His name is Elijah Millsap and he is still chasing the dream. Read More »

Dime Q&A: Danny Green On How To Make It As A D-League Call-Up

Danny Green

*This interview was originally printed in Dime #69. Check it out on newsstands nationwide for the full feature.*

Danny Green is a bit like an energy drink. Put him in the game, and he provides a spark. Put him in the starting lineup, and he’ll make the Spurs feel young again. And, with no disrespect to Manu Ginobili‘s ever-expanding bald spot, the Spurs were in desperate need of some fresh legs. After sharing a backcourt on the Reno Big Horns last season with a guy by the name of Jeremy Lin, Green has been given a new opportunity with the Spurs this season, one that he hasn’t let slip away. On the season, he averaged 9.1 points and 3.5 rebounds a game, earning enough minutes (over 23 a night) to call himself an important piece of San Antonio’s championship puzzle. Read More »
