In late November, we showed you 70 behind the scenes photos from the inaugural Nike Pro Training Camp. Over four intense days of basketball and training at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore., some of the best athletes represented by Nike Inc. – meaning Nike Basketball, Jordan Brand and Converse – came out to get better. Now, here’s your chance to take another inside look at what LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Chris Bosh, Udonis Haslem, Omri Casspi, Randy Foye, and Manny Harris did. When I first met Tyreke Evans five years ago, I came away unsure that the 6-foot-6 high school sophomore could dunk.
I mean, he could dunk – at his height, with natural athleticism and arms long enough to box with God, he could definitely get himself above the rim – but next to the aerial showmanship of Class of 2008 peers such as DeMar DeRozan, Willie Warren, Devin Ebanks and even little Brandon Jennings, Tyreke’s arsenal of jams was like Duck Hunt compared to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. During an afternoon-long photo shoot for the cover of Dime #24, Tyreke wowed me with 30-foot jump shots. But when he was asked to dunk on camera for some mid-air shots, the letdown was jarring. Now that there’s an actual 2011-12 NBA season on the horizon, offseason workouts for players transition to preseason workouts. And after eight years in the League, this is definitely the case for current free agent Josh Howard. According to ESPN.com’s Chris Broussard, Howard will visit four teams this week, beginning on Tuesday, including Chicago, Washington, New Jersey, and San Antonio. And coming off knee injuries that held him to only 53 games the past two seasons, the 31-year-old looks to be back to his old self. With that, watch J-Ho workout with trainer Tim Martin in Dallas. Yesterday, the inaugural Nike Pro Training Camp came to a close. After four intense days of basketball and training at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore., some of the best athletes represented by Nike Inc. – meaning Nike Basketball, Jordan Brand and Converse – came out to get better. While we showed you JaVale McGee‘s conventional workout this morning, this video showcasing perhaps the two best players in the world is a little different. With the swimming pool stuff, I feel like I’m watching The Guardian. Some NBA players set sail for the Caribbean once the season ends. But as we’ve seen before with LeBron James and Kevin Durant, they are going hard despite the lockout. With that, watch two of the best players in the world workout with trainer Mike Mancias at the University of Akron. Read More »
It doesn’t get too much better than having a JaVale McGee lockout diary. Amazingly, for all of the funny stuff he’s been known to do, in Part 1 that we showed y’all earlier this month, it was mostly about running on the beach and shedding light on McGee’s tattoos. Part 2 recently dropped as well, and this one is basically a look into the typical workout – jumping rope, lifting and abs – for one of the NBA’s most athletic centers.
Despite what you may think, most NBA players don’t set sail for the Caribbean once the season ends; many decide to work on their game. This is definitely the case for LeBron James and Kevin Durant. You’ve already seen LBJ and Dwyane Wade workout in Miami this summer, and the same can be said for KD and Joe Johnson. With that, watch two of the best players in the world workout with trainer Mike Mancias at the University of Akron. Read More »
When you interact with NBA players for a living, it’s easy to figure out who’s real and who’s not. Make no mistake, JaVale McGee is as real as it gets. With that, watch as Pierre shows you his beach workout, his business tats and his matte black 2011 Chevy Tahoe.
Kendrick Perkins wasn’t himself towards the end of last season, and he promised everyone that it’ll be different next year. The goal is to shed 20 pounds after the big man ballooned up to about 285. Judging off this video, Perkins looks really good, like ready to smash some heads. He’s definitely leaner around the waist, and seems to be lighter on his feet. OKC’s defense tailed off a bit last season from the year before, but if Perkins can regain his health and conditioning, we could be looking at the start of a juggernaut. If the video isn’t working, go here.
Despite what you may think, most NBA players don’t set sail for the Caribbean once the season ends; many decide to live in the gym. And after eight years in the League, this is definitely the case for Matt Carroll. With that, watch “the placekicker” workout with the Accelerate Basketball team in Charlotte, N.C.
