Breaking News: Tyrus Thomas Injured in Weightlifting Accident

This is absolutely terrible news for Tyrus Thomas and the Chicago Bulls: Thomas reportedly suffered a fracture to his left forearm while doing pullups today during a team weightlifting session. Read More »

I Don’t See The Celtics Losing A Game Anytime Soon

After watching the Celtics continue their dominance last night against the Sixers, jumping out to a quick 5-0 on the year, this got me wondering: When will the Celtics actually lose a game? Now clearly I don’t think they’re going to go 82-0 (although that would be sweet), but looking at their upcoming schedule, Boston could legitimately finish the month of November without a loss. Tim Donaghy Back On The Streets Tomorrow

While his book won’t be dropping anytime soon, Tim Donaghy will at least have a chance to schedule meetings with publishers in person starting tomorrow. Finishing a 13-month prison term at the Hernando County (Fla.) Jail, the 42-year-old will have his life back. Sort of. Read More »

NBA Hit List power ranking, 11.2

The worst part about preseason polls is that voters adopt a loyalty to those pre-determined spots even after the season shows us some of those picks were just wrong. College football gets it the worst, but the same often applies for the NBA; the only saving grace is that, at the end of the day, voter opinion doesn’t matter because the NBA has a playoff.

That said, we ignored making a preseason NBA Hit List power ranking, so as not to influence this first week’s edition. Counting down from worst to first… Read More »

Where Are They Now: Nick Van Exel

“Soprano the rock, handle like Van Exel” – Jay-Z

There was a reason why Hova would name drop Nick Van Exel’s name in a verse. Nick the Quick was everything you wanted out of a small guard: a smooth south paw stroke, crafty dribble moves, great court vision and money in the clutch. And best of all, everything he did, he did it with style. Read More »

League Pushes Deadline; Still Time For Rajon, Rudy & Tyrus

Last week I was writing about the possible contract extensions for guys in the 2006 NBA Draft class, and how to-date only Andrea Bargnani, LaMarcus Aldridge and Brandon Roy had received them. Then the other day word broke that Thabo Sefolosha signed a four-year, around $14 million extension with the Thunder, leaving guys like Rajon Rondo, Rudy Gay and Tyrus Thomas waiting for an offer. Good news though: the league has pushed back the deadline from Saturday to Monday. Read More »

Tim Donaghy’s Explosive Book Excerpts

For various reasons, disgraced NBA ref Tim Donaghy’s tell-all book about his antics in the League has been canceled by the book’s publisher. “Blowing the Whistle: The Culture of Fraud in the NBA” was supposed to drop later this month, covering Donaghy’s experience in the NBA and the events leading up to his conviction on federal wire fraud charges.

The official cancellation didn’t hit though until some explosive excerpts were released to some media outlets including Deadspin.com. The clips Deadspin posted from Donaghy’s book are jaw-dropping. We’re not taking sides here, we’re just passing some of them along … Read More »

Stephen Jackson Might Get His Wish Soon

ESPN’s Chris Broussard is reporting that the Stephen Jackson trade talk has heated up for the Golden State Warriors. Broussard stresses that these are strictly rumors at this point, but mentions that team’s like the Cavs, Nuggets, Spurs, Hornets and Clippers might be interested in acquiring Jackson. The Warriors apparently are interested in Manu Ginobili from the Spurs or Zydrunas Ilgauskas from the Cavs.

Miami’s “DOUBTERS” Campaign Is Amazing

An effective ad campaign can be a goldmine. Look at Geico. Who else could make cavemen or a wad of cash with googly eyes drive you to buy insurance. Taking a page out of the book of out-the-box ideas is the Miami Heat.

For anyone that has been down in South Florida, you might have wondered what the giant black billboard with the word “DOUBTERS” written in white italics was all about on I-95 southbound just north of Miami. With no logo or identification or whom or what had placed the ad, all you could see was birds perched atop it doing their business directly onto the billboard. Read More »
