See The “Mount Spursmore” Haircut Featuring The Spurs’ Big Four

Mount Spursmore

The playoffs are starting soon, so fanaticism is amping up as teams go into the real season, which starts Saturday. While a tattoo is permanent enough to make — lets say — a Charlies Villanueva tattoo a bit dicey, let alone two, haircuts come and go. Still, it takes a special kind of dedication to groom the top four Spurs: Tim Duncan, Kawhi Leonard, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili — aka “Mount Spursmore” — into your scalp. That’s why Spurs fan Joe Barajas turned his receding hair into a reasonably good facsimile of the big four Spurs visages. Read More »

James Harden Says He’d “Definitely” Be In OKC If Money Wasn’t Involved

James Harden, Kevin Durant

The decision Sam Presti and OKC made in the fall of 2012 to deal James Harden to the Houston Rockets for 50 cents on the dollar sent reverberations throughout the NBA and made Houston a title contender even while OKC continues to be one of the top teams in the league. During a recent one-on-one with ESPN’s Hannah Storm, Harden goes into the details behind his trade to Houston and how things might have played out differently if money hadn’t been an issue. Gary Payton: Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook Not On My Level

Gary Payton

Gary Payton‘s never been one to hold back. MVP? Kevin Durant, no question. LeBron? He won it two years in a row, but now it’s a new era. Russell Westbrook? He’s the new-school point guard but there are only three real lead guards left. Read More »

Suns Ballboy Says, “The Whole Spurs Team Gave Off A Nice Fragrance”

San Antonio Spurs

The r/NBA community on reddit is composed of a fantastic group of readers and contributors. It’s a must-read almost daily for the basketball minutiae they share every day. They’re also a great place for NBA people — Daryl Morey being one — to stop by and chat with redditors. Recently a pair of Phoenix Suns bagllboys stopped by for an AMA (ask me anything), and they had some interesting — though not surprising — things to say about the Spurs’ odor. Read More »

Amar’e Stoudemire May Play In Jerusalem After Knicks Contract Ends

Amar'e Stoudemire

Amar’e Stoudemire (Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports)

Amar’e Stoudemire‘s 5-year, $100 million contract will be off the books at the end of the 2014-15 season — though he has an early termination option he’s unlikely to use. After receiving close to $23 million next season, the injury-ravaged forward might not re-sign in the NBA, but join his Israeli team (he’s part-owner) to finish out his career overseas, reports the New York Post. Amar’e Stoudemire Says Of Knicks: “On Paper We Might Be The Best Team In The NBA”

With a win by the Hawks, the Knicks were officially eliminated from the 2014 NBA Playoffs on Saturday. The future of the franchise hinges on Carmelo Anthony‘s decision this summer. Anthony has already said he’ll opt out of the final year of his contract to become a free agent on July 1, and Phil Jackson might be facing a tall task to rebuild if ‘Melo bounces — though maybe not. Despite the depressing season, Amar’e Stoudemire recently said the Knicks might have the best team in the NBA on paper. Read More »

Russell Westbrook Goaltends Consecutive Shots After Whistle & Falls

Russell Westbrook

Russell Westbrook (Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports)

Kevin Garnett was the first player to popularize the post whistle goaltend in an effort to prevent an opposing shooter from finding his shooting rhythm by shooting during a dead ball situation. Since then, it’s become commonplace around the Association, and Russell Westbrook swatted two in a row after the whistle when the Thunder visited Indiana on Sunday. Except, #WhyNot Russ took quite the spill on the second one. Read More »

Video: A Little Kid Flops, But We Should Still Shut Up About Flopping

Little Kid Flop

Recently, the good people at Complex brought a video to our attention featuring a tiny rec league player obviously flopping his way to a foul on an inbounds play from the sidelines. The headline reads: “Video of a Little Kid Flopping During a Game Proves That The Future of Basketball Is Probably Doomed.” While headlines — even ours — have a tendency towards hyperbole, the self-righteous anger in the YouTube comments of the video, the we are all doomed tone of the post and the Internet’s general reaction to the various flopping infractions, which occur all the time in the NBA, has got to stop. Flopping isn’t new, either for kids or professionals. As long as there has been athletics, there has been flopping; it’s just that not everyone had camera phones to record such blatant trickery and YouTube didn’t even exist 10 years ago. Read More »

Is Phil Jackson’s Hands-Off Approach To Mike Woodson A Sign Woody’s Done?

Phil Jackson

Phil Jackson (Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports)

The Knicks need to go 4-0 to finish the season, coupled with a 1-3 stretch by the Hawks if they want to make the playoffs as the eight seed in the Eastern Conference. But in a season rife with disappointment and discord within the team as they plummeted from mid-tier playoff contender to also-ran, coach Mike Woodson has been — perhaps justifiably — on the hot seat as the feasibility of a playoff series drifts closer to an impossibility. Following the Phil Jackson hire as New York’s head of basketball operations, the Zen Master has largely remained mum about Woodson’s job performance, which most likely means only a miracle will save Woodson’s job. Dick Bavetta Is Too Old To Help Zaza Pachulia Up

Dick Bavetta

Dick Bavetta (Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports)

During a stoppage in play in last night’s exciting game between Indiana’s second team and the league-worst Bucks, Milwaukee center Zaza Pachulia reached out to septuagenarian referee Dick Bavetta for some help to his feet. As you’ll see, Bavetta smartly decided against helping the Bucks big man to his feet. Read More »
