Joe Johnson On Playing For Jason Kidd: “We Practiced, But, You Know…Not Really”

Jason Kidd

It’s no secret that NBA teams get scant legitimate practice opportunities during the regular season. Travel, back-to-backs, and the simple wear-and-tear of an 82-game schedule renders the vast majority of “practices” something closer to “shoot-arounds” or “walk-throughs.” Still, some teams take those watered-down sessions more seriously than others. Jason Kidd’s Brooklyn Nets, apparently, weren’t among them. Read More »

Gregg Popovich Says Spurs Are Betting On Boris Diaw’s Offseason Weight Gain

Gregg Popovich

These San Antonio Spurs will always be about Gregg Popovich and Tim Duncan first and foremost, with Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili in the near background, too. And as Kawhi Leonard’s star rises ever higher, perhaps he’ll make that exalted quartet a fivesome. But to us, nothing embodies the champion Spurs more than the playful and respectful nature of the relationship between Boris Diaw and San Antonio’s eminently quotable coach. Read More »

Back In Cavs Uniform, LeBron Says Diet Wasn’t Because Of Basketball

LeBron James

LeBron James looked different. It was the wine and gold jersey and the headband he’s wearing, sure, but also his smaller arms and less rounded shoulders. In his first official press conference as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, James said his much-publicized weight loss “had nothing to do with basketball.” Read More »

Report: Pierce Says Wizards Opponents Will “Get Beaten Up” At Verizon Center

Paul Pierce

Paul Pierce admitted that it was strange wearing different colors than Boston Celtics green and gold last season. Now playing for his third team in as many years and without long-time teammate Kevin Garnett by his side for the first time since 2007, Washington Wizards red and blue surely feels just as weird if not more so than Brooklyn Nets black and white. But a player like Pierce belongs to the game more than any single franchise, and you can bet he’s intent on making the same on- and off- court impact in Washington as he did in his previous long and short stops. And even though training camp has yet to begin, The Truth’s deep-rooted basketball ideology is already rubbing off on his teammates. Read More »

Owner Steve Ballmer Wants Clippers To Ditch Apple

Steve Ballmer

When former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer bought the Clippers for a record $2 billion, the sale was still shrouded by the then-ongoing Donald Sterling fiasco. Once the sale was made final, though, the media turned towards the new owner. In an interview with Reuters, Ballmer made it clear, there will be no iPad’s for his coaching staff. Read More »

Phil Jackson Says J.R. Smith Might Be “A Little Bit Like Dennis Rodman”

J.R. Smith

Phil Jackson’s ability to forge unity is legendary. Perhaps more influential than his strategic prowess as a coach was Jackson’s unique capacity to mold some of basketball’s biggest personalities into players who put the team ahead ahead of themselves. Jackson’s most challenging and perhaps rewarding project was Dennis Rodman, the basketball savant and rebounding maven who was as notorious for his singular talent as much as his volcanic in-game and off-court attitude. And guess which New York Knick Jackson recently compared to The Worm? That’s right, J.R. Smith. Read More »

LeBron Says His Weight Loss Is “Not Such A Good Thing For The Competition”

LeBron James

In his first sit-down after announcing his return to the Cavs, LeBron James talks with Rachel Nichols for CNN’s Unguarded (airing Friday), and in a sneak peek of the airing he explains making amends with Cavs owner Dan Gilbert, who famously called LeBron a “coward” in his COMIC SANS letter to fans following 2010′s national televised Decision. LeBron also explained his weight loss this summer, saying he’s down to the “250-ish range,” which is still huge, but for James means added quickness, a change LeBron was quick to point out is bad news for his opponents. Andrew Bogut Says Dante Exum Critics “Need To Pull Their Heads Out”

Andrew Bogut

Utah Jazz rookie Dante Exum was barely a blip on the radar for Australia at the FIBA World Cup. The fifth pick of the 2014 draft averaged just 2.7 points and 12 minutes per game while shooting 33 percent from the field in Spain, paltry numbers that were even inflated due to Australia resting its starters for a game that Exum scored 12 points and played 31 minutes. Some league followers took Exum’s basic FIBA no-show as further confirmation that he simply isn’t ready for NBA competition in 2014-2015. For those detractors, fellow countryman and Golden State Warriors center Andrew Bogut has some pointed advice. Read More »

Ferry had played the last three seasons of his career San Antonio and it was his interim home before he took over his current Hawks role in 2012. LeBron James Pokes Fun At “Not One, Not Two, Not Three” Comment

LeBron James

LeBron James made sure to not promise a championship to the Cleveland Cavaliers upon announcing his return to Northeast Ohio. Clearly, The King learned from his past mistakes. He’s also not above making light of them, either. Read More »
