Dwight Howard After Loss To Warriors: “Hawks Are The Best Team” (Video)

Dwight Howard, Stephen Curry

Dwight Howard and the Houston Rockets have played the Golden State Warriors four times this season, and have come away loser on all four occasions. You’d think Houston’s defensive bell cow would have utmost respect for The Bay’s team, then, but you’d be wrong. Asked after last night’s 126-113 drubbing at the hands of Golden State if he’d just faced basketball’s best team, Howard demurred. Read More »

Video: 76ers Miss Five Layups In One Possession

Jason Smith , K.J. McDaniels

The Knicks won last night, but there’s an asterisk since it came against the Sixers, and some fans are gonna bitch about ping pong balls — forgetting that the team with the worst record has won the lottery half as many times as the team who finished with the third worst record. New York’s 98-91 victory in Philadelphia was just their seventh win of their worst season — so far — in franchise history, but one possession might have ensconced Philly as an all-time bad team more so either team’s woeful record. Missing five layups in one possession will do that. Read More »

Isiah Thomas Calls Russell Westbrook “The Mike Tyson Of Point Guards”

Russell Westbrook

Just as important to Russell Westbrook’s game as his unrivaled physical profile is the approach he takes to wielding it. If the Oklahoma City Thunder point guard played with caution and patience as opposed to relentless aggression, he’d hardly be the superstar he is today. Westbrook’s basketball id can be a curse on occasion, but it’s a blessing first and foremost. Read More »

James Harden Says The Warriors “Ain’t That Good”

James Harden

Today, just three games short of the mid-way point of the 2014-15 NBA season, the Warriors have the NBA’s best record at 33-6 — a .846 winning percentage. Before Saturday’s game between the Warriors and Rockets, they still had the league’s best record, but in the pre-game tunnel James Harden told his Rockets teammates “They beat us already twice. They ain’t that good man.” A 25-point loss to the Warriors followed. Read More »

Shots Fired! Dion Waiters On OKC Versus CLE: “Like, I Actually Touch The Ball”

Dion Waiters

Dion Waiters recently minced words when indirectly comparing his short time with Oklahoma City Thunder to his two-plus seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He’s not taking that surprisingly passive approach anymore. Again touching on the difference between playing for Oklahoma City versus Cleveland, the third-year guard recently said, “Listen, they give me the ball.Read More »

Video: Courtside Fan Hilariously Reacts To Jason Kidd’s Words With Officals

Jason Kidd

We’ve never sat courtside at a NBA game, but imagine that being privy to audible interactions of coaches, players, and officials is as interesting as actual gameplay – at least for casual fans. A woman in the first row of last night’s game between the Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors surely thinks so. As Jason Kidd reprimands a referee for being assessed a technical foul, watch the fan react to his antagonistic words with hilarious amusement. Read More »

Video: More Lazy Defense By LeBron James

LeBron James, Chicago Bulls

The Cavs won again last night, 108-94, their third in a row after falling below .500 last week. LeBron James put in 26 points on 52 percent shooting against a Bulls team that’s lost two in a row and six of their last 10. While James played well, there was another play that showed LeBron can sometimes take a defensive possession off. Read More »

Dion Waiters Says Playing For Oklahoma City Thunder Is “Great Situation”

Dion Waiters

Context always, always matters in basketball. A player’s overall ability is never the sole attribute that will decide his effectiveness; role, fit, comfort, and so many other aspects outside of an individual’s control influences player performance almost as much as anything else. And despite having been traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers to Oklahoma City Thunder just two weeks ago, Dion Waiters is already grasping that reality. Read More »

Mike Conley: “I’ll Slap [Tony Allen] Against The Back Of His Head” So He Listens

Tony Allen, Mike Conley

The Memphis Grizzlies have cooled since they started the season with the NBA’s best record at 10-1, but at 29-11, they’re third place in an increasingly ruthless Western Conference. A big part of their success this year — as in year’s past — is the play of perpetually underrated point guard Mike Conley. In a recent NBA.com feature with Ian Thomsen, Conley offered his own unique relationship with Tony Allen, and it’s as cavalier as the flamboyant Grizzlies defensive whiz. Read More »

LeBron James Says He’s Felt Better Since Return Than He Had All Season

LeBron James

LeBron James’ two week absence cost the Cleveland Cavaliers. They lost seven of the eight games he missed due to nagging back and knee strains, falling from 18-12 to 19-19 in the process – and losing major ground in the ever-important battle for home court advantage come playoff time. But should the four-time continue playing the way he has in the three games since his return, Cleveland’s midseason swoon will surely prove worth it. And given comments that James made yesterday, that even appears a likely scenario. Read More »
