Tweets From Last Night: Game 4

LeBron James

Just like that, it’s all tied up. In response to some mix-matching with the Mavericks lineup, Rick Carlisle got some help for a sick Dirk Nowitzki in helping Dallas climb back to a 2-2 series tie. And before you ask, yes, this post is going to come across a little LeBron-haterish.

In Game 4′s tweets, we learn who the T-Mobile girl is and rave over a sighting of The Custodian. And of course, us media are going to go crazy on LeBron James after he shrunk in Game 4, but before reporters made him sweat after the game, the Twitterverse was already ragging on the King. Tweets From Last Night: Game 3

LeBron James

Game 3 of the NBA Finals was pretty much an attempt by the basketball gods to screw with us onlookers. We had finally decided that the Miami Heat were LeBron James‘ team, Chris Bosh was weak sauce and Dirk Nowitzki had more clutch in him than Jeff Gordon‘s NASCAR car. But that all was a cruel trick.

As it turned out, Bosh hits the game winner, and though LeBron made the pretty set-up pass, King James took a lot of flak from the media afterward. Dallas had a good shot to tie it and send the game into overtime, but Nowitzki shot it long and that was that. Read More »

Tweets From Last Night: Game 2

Shawn Marion

Honestly, a Twitter recap for Game 2 of the NBA Finals could be a list of different ways to say “holy sh**,” but of course, the first 41 minutes of the game matter, too. If you turned the TV off with Dallas down by 15 and seven minutes left, you probably missed something important, say, a 22-5 run to give the Mavericks a historic 95-93 victory against the Miami Heat.

To get it out of the way, the postgame Twitter trends included “LeBum,” “Series Tied” and “Tinky Winky,” though it’s unclear whether the latter was an adjective referring to Chris Bosh‘s defense on Dirk Nowitzki or something completely unrelated. Read More »

Tweets From Last Night: Game 1

LeBron James

Analyzing Game 1 between the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat goes beyond the Xs and Os, past the same storyline many of us predicted before the tip. Were you surprised that it was a game until LeBron James and Dwyane Wade proved too much for Dirk Nowitzki and, well, nobody else?

I think you might have seen that coming. Whatever the case may be, the Twittersphere was blowing up with a lot of insight, smack talk and humorous accounts (for the love of the basketball gods, “Dirk NoRingski” was trending). For the sake of objectivity, here’s a little taste of the Mavs Malice and the Heat Hate – plus a ton of old-guy jokes – via Twitter. Read More »

If you’re on Twitter, chances are you probably follow @jose3030 or have seen his name retweeted somewhere. Industry Experts: Twitter Is The Gateway To Becoming The Next Dwight Howard

Dwight Howard

While at the Athlete Branding panel at the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference a few weeks ago, something strange occurred. A person from the crowd asked the group, which featured Greg Via (Sports Marketing Global Director for Gillette), Phil de Picciotto (President of Octagon), Lawrence Norman (adidas Vice President of Global Basketball) and Sarah Robb O’Hagan (President of Gatorade North America), who the most marketable current athlete in sports is. Us basketball fans would assume it would be either Kobe Bryant or LeBron James, but an unexpected consensus answer came out from the panel. Read More »

The Knicks Make A Huge Social Media Push With KnicksNow.com

New York Knicks

About a month ago, I started noticing posters and billboards along New York City streets and subways for a New York Knicks website called KnicksNow.com, so of course I had to go check it out. The only problem was when I tried, a username and password authentication screen appeared. Today, I saw a woman with an orange t-shirt displaying the Knicks Now URL on the back of it and decided to revisit the site. The log-in box was replaced with an impressive abundance of Knicks content dating back to early November. Read More »

The NBA Continues To Be Leaders In Social Media Initiatives

NBA

If you are one of the nearly 2.5 million people that “Like” the NBA on Facebook, then you have probably seen a version of NBAStore.com living on the Facebook site. I can only imagine how well this has done so far. On Facebook, the NBA encourages daily fan participation by creating polls on Fan Appz and posting pictures and videos nearly every day. There are usually over 1,000 comments per post and this is why the NBA is the most “Liked” sports league that uses social media.

For the Finals, though, the NBA has taken it one step further. Read More »
