Over the last few years, one of the only faults with the 2K Sports basketball franchise has been the ballhandling system. It was never responsive enough, and sometimes felt like they were stubbornly hanging onto the old system because it differed from Live‘s. I could get the controls down in practice, but then in games, I’d often find myself struggling to pull them off. NBA 2K13 promises to change all of that by mapping ballhandling off to the right stick, which will differentiate between movement and the live dribble. 2K has done a lot for the game this year. Now, we just gotta do something about Too $hort. Read More »

NBA 2K13 is shaping up to be one of the greatest basketball video games we’ve ever seen, and besides some of the awesome traditional modes the guys at 2K have highlighted, they’re now showing the MyTEAM mode. “The Road To The Playoffs” is an online-only experience where you earn points and money to pay for better players and build up your team. It’s a pretty cool idea, and a nice alternative should you get sick of matching up with the Laker and Miami fanboys online. Check out the video below to go more in-depth. Read More »

Even if we all know the 1992 Dream Team vs. 2012 Team USA argument is fatally flawed and impossible to find consensus on, we all secretly want to put the teams together in a time machine and watch what happens anyway. NBA 2K13′s newest trailer does just that, and it’s incredible to watch, even virtually, how Larry Bird would cover Kevin Durant, or the changes in how the point guard position is played by Russell Westbrook facing John Stockton. We’ve known for quite a while that the game would have the Dream Team as a playable option, but even seeing a glimpse of Kobe guard MJ is a part of that matchup we’ve all been waiting to see. The last time Blake Griffin dropped in on The Lucas Brothers to talk about NBA 2K13, it was pure comedy. Now, he’s back again, and this time, they’re having a little fun at the expense of 2K’s newly-revamped mode, MyCAREER. We’re not sure if this is funnier than the original Blake/2K ad, but it’s pretty close. Read More »

What used to be MyPLAYER is now MyCAREER, and NBA 2K13 is bringing much more than a simple name change to the new mode this year. One of the cool new features will be GM sit-downs, where you can request a meeting with the team’s brass and air out your problems (long-time 2K players will probably recall a similar function from years past). The press conference feature was also expanded, and you can even choose which endorsement company you want to sign with (everything looks super deep and versatile). This new video won’t get you as hyped as yesterday’s epic joint will, but it’s still interesting to check out. Read More »

I’ve never been a big fan of the Kinect outside of the fundamental Olympic-style games (Those can actually be decent workouts. Try them.), and probably won’t be playing NBA 2K13 like this either. But 2K Sports still looks like they’ve done a great job of incorporating the technology into this year’s game. Between the play calls, substitutions and general feel, 2K13 could be reaching another new audience this year. Read More »

Yes, this video dropped a few days ago, but we figured we should bring it to y’all anyways since only the hardest hardcore gamers were checking for NBA 2K13 updates on a holiday weekend. This Developer Insight tackles the new animations in the game, which are apparently awesome. The only thing I wished they would’ve showed more of in this preview was more in-game footage rather than dunk contest theatrics. Read More »

With 2K Sports recently releasing a gameplay trailer, a trailer for All-Star Weekend, and a hilarious ad spot with Blake Griffin, you can tell they’re ramping it up to get ready for the stretch run before NBA 2K13 drops on October 2. We’ve heard so much about the Dream Team being in the game, and about all of the legends that’ll be available to use again, so how about we see a few of them? 2K Sports obliged and is showing off six of them today, including Scottie Pippen, Wilt Chamberlain, Shaquille O’Neal, Alonzo Mourning, Shawn Kemp, and the one we’re most excited for – a guy who wasn’t in the game last year as a historic player – Allen Iverson. The more we see of Blake Griffin doing funny commercials and stand-ups, the more natural he gets at them. This NBA 2K13 ad with the Lucas Brothers is hilarious, and one of Blake’s best comedic moments yet. As we noted in Smack, Griffin says he’s 100 percent ready to go after his knee surgery. That’s bad news for the NBA. At least for 2K fans, it won’t even matter if he’s not healthy – we’ll still be able to unleash his dunking fury in the video game either way. Read More »
