The NBA 2K franchise has been the perfect supplement to the basketball fandom experience for many people for quite some time now. It’s not always perfect, but we love it nonetheless. It amps us up to see the new crop of rookies and gives us the first shot at dominating with Dwight in a Lakers uniform. This year’s edition, NBA 2K13, looks to be one of the best editions yet. Building on the success of their MyPlayer game mode with a new MyCareer mode, introducing an Ultimate Team style MyTeam mode, and continuing to incorporate basketball legends into this year’s game, is 2K poised to dominate yet another year of sports video gaming. Some of the Dime crew was at the NBA 2K13 launch party last night in New York City, and apparently, the game was so attractive, a few of the guys said, “I think I’m coming out of video game retirement.” We’ve seen it all so far from 2K Sports, but in this video, we take a look at a long overlooked aspect of the game: the sneakers. Over the last few years, one of the only faults with the 2K Sports basketball franchise has been the ballhandling system. It was never responsive enough, and sometimes felt like they were stubbornly hanging onto the old system because it differed from Live‘s. I could get the controls down in practice, but then in games, I’d often find myself struggling to pull them off. NBA 2K13 promises to change all of that by mapping ballhandling off to the right stick, which will differentiate between movement and the live dribble. 2K has done a lot for the game this year. NBA 2K13 is shaping up to be one of the greatest basketball video games we’ve ever seen, and besides some of the awesome traditional modes the guys at 2K have highlighted, they’re now showing the MyTEAM mode. “The Road To The Playoffs” is an online-only experience where you earn points and money to pay for better players and build up your team. What used to be MyPLAYER is now MyCAREER, and NBA 2K13 is bringing much more than a simple name change to the new mode this year. One of the cool new features will be GM sit-downs, where you can request a meeting with the team’s brass and air out your problems (long-time 2K players will probably recall a similar function from years past). The press conference feature was also expanded, and you can even choose which endorsement company you want to sign with (everything looks super deep and versatile).
