Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 11.5

Beast of the Night: Chris Paul edges out Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade and David Lee with his 39 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals, along with 61 percent (14-23) shooting from the floor and perfect (8-8) shooting from the line. He also hit 3 treys in an overtime victory over Dallas. CP3 got off to a relatively slow start this season but has really turned it on for the past three games. He’s playing with some extra ferocity nowadays and that’s a great thing for his fantasy owners. Read More »

Oops, Pau Surprise

Is it just us, or has this been — from an injury standpoint — the most destructive NBA preseason in a while? Last year Deron Williams started out on the shelf, and of course Gilbert Arenas and Monta Ellis had their issues, but we don’t remember too many other notables beginning the regular season logging DNPs due to preseason injuries … One standout who’s absence will be very noticeable on Opening Night is Pau Gasol, who as of yesterday is expected to miss the Lakers/Clippers opener with a bad hamstring. Gasol and Andrew Bynum (shoulder) missed L.A.’s last two preseason games, but while Bynum said he’s going to play Tuesday, the Lakers look like they’ll be getting their rings with Gasol in a suit and Lamar Odom in the starting lineup … Read More »

Cavs get healthy, smash short-handed Mavs; Oden, Raja injured

With most of their guys back healthy from the flu and various other injuries, the Cavs smashed the Mavs by 30 last night at the University of Pittsburgh gym. (Since when do Cleveland teams get love in Pittsburgh?) Mo Williams had 16 points and 11 assists, LeBron put up 12 points on 3-of-13 shooting and seven dimes, and Big Z scored 16 off the bench … Dallas was the team playing short-handed, as Dirk, J-Kidd and Jason Terry were given the night off, and Josh Howard and Shawn Marion are still banged up. So the starting five looked like this: J.J. Barea, Matt Carroll, Quinton Ross, Drew Gooden and Erick Dampier. Pretty sure the Pitt Panthers squad would be able to give that lineup at least a decent run. Hell, put Sam Young and DeJuan Blair back on the squad and they might pull off a W … Read More »

Saturday Night Lights

Every day, more signs are popping up to tell us we’re getting closer and closer to the actual NBA season. Over the last week or so, we’ve watched guys going through the motions in practice (the “Real Training Camp” cameras never lie); Shaq throwing his old teams under the bus to hype up his new team; a valuable Kings player getting hurt; Vince Carter’s critics blasting him for shooting (and missing) too many jumpers; Gerald Wallace dunking on cats; some decent preseason games; a couple of fights and suspensions; and further proof that the Warriors are officially the Oakland Raiders of the NBA. Last night was another milestone, with the first nationally televised game of the year: Suns/Warriors on TNT. Read More »

The Dream is Dead

It looks like the dream of watching Amar’e Stoudemire in a Warriors uniform, putting up stupid numbers beasting people in Don Nelson’s system, is as good as dead.

There have been trade rumors of varying intensity about Amar’e potentially heading to Golden State going all the way back to before the Draft, with any kind of deal apparently hinging on this guy, and a slew of of other Warriors’ assets. Read More »

Top 5 Breakout NBA Stars For Next Season

I have feeling that the upcoming NBA season is going to be one for the books.

While there are a plethora of superstars that the majority of casual fans will follow, there are a select few poised for a breakout year and may prove even more valuable for teams than the already established stars.

Here’s my top 5: Read More »

Blake Griffin: Demolition Man

Blake Griffin, the best player and biggest star in tomorrow’s NBA Draft, is a genuinely nice guy. But when he wants something, he will destroy anything in his path to get it.

Blake Griffin looks out of place in a kitchen. Appliances aren’t made for 6-10, 255-pound incredible hulks, especially in University of Oklahoma student housing. Read More »

Amar’e is staying in Phoenix, and Paul Pierce is talking s***

At least for now, Amar’e Stoudemire isn’t going anywhere. Yesterday morning we mentioned a rumored trade proposal that would send Amar’e to Minnesota for Al Jefferson and the #6 pick in next week’s Draft, and while follow-up reports now say that a discussion did take place between the Suns and Wolves, apparently Minnesota said no. We know the Suns are always trying to save a buck, and Amar’e was up for grabs earlier this year when he wasn’t working out with then-coach Terry Porter, but trading him now doesn’t even make sense. The Top 5 Guns For Hire

Andrew wrote this morning that the Celtics should have been more patient, now having a shot at bigger frontcourt contributors Drew Gooden and Joe Smith, but with Mikki Moore and a full roster, Gooden and Smith will have to find another team to suit up for. Turns out, they’re not the only ones.

As GMs cut ties with players before Sunday’s deadline to still be playoff eligible, giving them a chance to participate in the postseason, who will snatch them up? Unless you’re contending, you’re not really looking to spend money, but if you have title aspirations, here are five guys who just became available (since the Knicks just signed Cheikh Samb) and where they’re most likely headed: Read More »
