Already this year, we’ve seen Washington get embarrassed at home in a preseason game and now they’ve lose their opener to the New Jersey Nets after going up 36-12 in the first half. Afterwards, disagreements between players and coaches spilled into the media; Andray Blatche ripped Flip Saunders‘ play-calling and offense after he heard some remarks from the coach that appeared to be directed at him. Nick Young wanted his money and no one gave it to him. He wanted to be appreciated and loved, and all he got instead were text messages and pictures of his empty locker stall from JaVale McGee and Andray Blatche. Maybe all his suitors were scared of his free-wheeling style or his penchant for jacking fadeaways. Maybe the hair was all that was needed to turn them off. However you cut it, Young struck out in free agency and had to come crawling back to Washington with his tail between his legs to accept the Wizards one-year qualifying offer of $3.7 million. Laker fans never have to worry. When the NBA released its revised schedule about a week ago, they made sure the league’s most polarizing franchise was delivered to it’s ever-expanding fan base. Is 29 out of 66 enough? 29 times this season the Lakers will be playing on national TV, which is only about 25 times more than the New Jersey Nets, despite their star point guard and despite their jet ski-riding, womanizing owner (and even those four games got the shaft that is NBA TV). Ricky Rubio has arrived. He’s arrived as much as you can during a lockout, when no one can really talk about him or see him play too often. But it’s being reported that the Spanish prodigy is in Los Angeles right now taking in the sights and testing himself against other NBA players. He’s already balled with Danny Granger, Joakim Noah, Enes Kanter and Omri Casspi. How much would you play to see Allen Iverson play up close? Today, Andray Blatche is turning 25, and a birthday post for the Washington forward is one of the easiest ones we’ve ever had. You could put any type of video up on Blatche and it would be entertaining in some way. Here he is out dining with Yi Jianlian. They would have their own handshake.
With the NBA offseason already a reality for half the league, the Washington Wizards will be wrapping up their rebuilding process. After watching their franchise go through some serious tough times, the front office came to the conclusion to abort everything and completely remold the roster. The franchise shipped out its three All-Stars – Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler and Gilbert Arenas – and went head-first into rebuilding mode. The key factor in rebuilding is giving your fans something to look forward to.
