A Star Rookie Has to Be Carried Off the Court; The Clippers Dunk All Over one of the Preseason’s Best Defenses

DeAndre Jordan

The Warriors don’t expect anyone to simply run through them this year. Defensively, they plan on being playoff-worthy, and once Andrew Bogut gets back into the lineup, they should have the personnel to do it. We’re still in the preseason, so you have to take everything with a grain of “This doesn’t really matter,” but going into last night, Golden State had held opponents to 39 percent from the field (No. 1 in the league), and only 92 points a night (No. 6). Olympic NBA Stars Capture The Moment; David Stern Smacks Down Dwight Howard’s Agent

Olympics NBA

Wherever your turn tonight (or for the next two weeks) you’re going to get hit in the face with Olympic coverage. We challenge you to find a nicer photo than this. Serge Ibaka looks like he just stepped off the set of Shaft. Thank everything for athletes and their Instagramming and Twittering. That photo was courtesy Kevin Durant‘s account, but of course we’ve seen how Team USA rides from Kevin Love‘s account. Don’t forget Deron Williams, too, who basically gave a photo essay of all the cool Olympians out there tonight. Read More »

Dime #70 Unveiled: John Wall Vs. Great Expectations

Dime #70: John Wall

John Wall recently made news when he said he believes the Wizards can make the playoffs next year. They added Nene towards the end of last season, and then made a splash with their offseason additions: the No. 3 overall pick in last month’s draft, Bradley Beal, and established vets Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza. The pieces are there, and now it’s just up to Wall to make the next step. We believe he will. Wall has helped unveil our next issue – Dime #70 – by tweeting out the cover to his 544,141 followers earlier today. Read More »

Eric Gordon Just Doesn’t Understand How Restricted Free Agency Works

Eric Gordon

Eric Gordon was offered, and signed, a 4 year, $58 million max contract by the Phoenix Suns, and Gordon fell in love. Head over heels, really. Effusive praise flew out of his mouth, and Gordon was trying to will his way out of New Orleans. But since he’s a restricted free agent, the decision is out of his hands. The truth finally came out yesterday, when Gordon spoke about his decision to sign the Suns’ offer sheet. Read More »

More NBA Draft aftermath, and looking ahead to free agency

Dion Waiters

The aftermath of the NBA Draft is always a good time to tell who actually knows something about basketball and who should just sit in a corner and think about hockey. One particularly popular non-informed opinion we’ve heard across sports-radio shows and Internet columns since Thursday is that the Cavs messed up by taking Dion Waiters with the No. 4 overall pick. Now we’re not guaranteeing that Waiters will be a good pro. He might not pan out, just like any Top-5 pick could potentially be a bust. But if your only reason to bash Cleveland’s pick is that Waiters wasn’t a starter at Syracuse, well, you need a better reason. Read More »

Kentucky Owns The First 2 Picks Of The NBA Draft; LeBron Almost Lost His Finals MVP Trophy

Anthony Davis

So how about that 1-2 Kentucky punch? Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist became the first teammates to ever go 1-2 in the NBA Draft and it wasn’t something many saw coming until the final minute. All the hubbub was about what Michael Jordan would do with No. 2. We mean, the Bobcats are so bad (qualifier: worst ever) they needed as many picks as possible, but they’re putting their faith into a big, strong wing defender who can throw down hard on you, too. The initials MKG were trending in the U.S. right after the bold pick. We hope it’s right because we liked him in Kentucky. Read More »
