Report: Celtics Trade Rajon Rondo To Mavs For Wright, Nelson, Crowder & 2 Picks

Rajon Rondo, Monta Ellis

After rumors ramped up last night the Celtics were in “serious” discussions to deal Rajon Rondo, today reports said he was “open” to re-signing with either the Mavs or Rockets, since he’s an unrestricted free agent next summer. Then, some speculated a deal was going to happen because the Mavericks Twitter account started following him. At the time, we thought it was hooey, but sources tell Yahoo a deal has been struck sending Rondo to Dallas — along with Dwight Powell — in exchange for Jae Crowder, Brandan Wright, Jameer Nelson a 2015 first-round draft pick and a future second round draft pick. Video: Brandan Wright Smashes On Luis Scola

Luis Scola, Brandan Wright

The Pacers got a surprising 111-100 win over the Mavericks in Dallas last night. Guard Donald Sloan played the game of his life — 29 points on 10-for-14 shooting — and a well—rounded attack stymied Dallas’ high-scoring offense. The win was even more impressive when you consider Roy Hibbert missed his first game in 1706 days. Luis Scola could have used his presence when Brandan Knight extended for this jam in Scola’s grill. Brandan Wright Climbs The Ladder On KEvin Seraphin

Brandan Wright

We’re not sure Wizards forward Kevin Seraphin knew what was coming when he elected to get in front of Mavericks center Brandan Wright after he rolled to the hoop last night. J.J. Barea had used the Wright screen to get into the lane, but then he lobbed a pass to the 6-10 Wright and it was Chutes and Ladders time, with an emphasis on the latter (get it?). Read More »

Brandan Wright Gives Blake A Taste Of His Own Medicine

Blake Griffin

The Clippers lost at home last night to a highly motivated Mavericks team fighting for their playoff lives in The Most Dangerous Game that’s happening for the final three seeds in a tightly packed Western Conference. At the same time, lefty big man Brandan Wright got to show Blake Griffin what it’s like to be on the other end of a poster dunk. Read More »

5 NBA Players Who Need Freedom

Enes Kanter

Jimmer Fredette was the poster boy for the “free him” campaign. The talented BYU alumni was underutilized and did not receive nearly enough minutes in the Kings system. Now not every frustrated player, feeling like he hasn’t really got his shot, gets the luxury of a buyout. There are an awful lot of players in the NBA who might be better off somewhere else. There are other players like Eric Bledsoe, James Harden and Goran Dragic who contributed steadily to their teams but reached All-Star levels in bigger roles. It’s up to the franchise brass to seek these players out and attain their services before they pop on the big stage. Obviously a 30-something-year old player isn’t magically going to become a superstar overnight but there are a lot of young players being poorly utilized. Read More »

Dwyane Wade’s 20 Best Dunks In The NBA

Dwyane Wade

Dwyane Wade (Gary A. Vasquez/USA TODAY Sports)

Once in awhile, we’re treated to watching Dwyane Wade unleash his athleticism all over the heads of multiple defenders, just as a reminder to know that he’s still capable of doing so. The poster dunks are less frequent, partly because of age and the fact that he doesn’t get the ball nearly as much as he did pre-LeBron, but they’re still harrowing to watch because of just how impressive Wade makes it look. Fantasy Basketball: The Week’s 3 Best Pickups (12.16)

Omer Asik

Basketball demands we break down its players not just by stats, but by the time and place they occur. That’s not the case in NBA fantasy hoops, though, where cold calculations rule the day and the matchup. Who are the Fantasy Doctor’s choices for this week’s best pickups? Hit the jump to find out. How To Fix The Atlanta Hawks: Let Josh Smith Leave, Sign O.J. Mayo & Rebuild Through Free Agency

Josh Smith

The second round of the playoffs is underway and with only eight teams remaining, it means another eight have been eliminated from title contention. The offseason is the time for these teams to retool to prepare for deeper runs next season. The Atlanta Hawks have been one of the most consistent teams in the NBA the past six seasons, but not in a good way. The Hawks are always the fourth or fifth seed in the playoffs and have lost in the first round three out of the last six years. Read More »

Oklahoma City Cuts Memphis In Half; Golden State’s Defense Beats Dallas

Russell Westbrook

We can just imagine Memphis head coach Lionel Hollins shaking his head. So you’re telling me you’re trading Rudy Gay and our first game without him is against Oklahoma City? Yes, and it wasn’t pretty, a small Grizzlies comeback notwithstanding in the second half Thursday in OKC’s 106-89 win. Memphis tied a season-low by scoring 34 points in the first half and fell behind by 25 because of a combination of OKC being freakishly good and the Grizzlies playing with zero energy and looking like someone just kicked their dog.
