Russ Smith

As March arrives in only three days, the madness talk has already begun. At this point in the season it is time to separate the pretenders from the contenders. Everyone waits for Selection Sunday to fill out their office brackets in which they hope will finally result in a pay day at the tournament’s conclusion. Without knowing any potential matchups, I listed five ranked teams that will cause bracket masters to scratch their heads this March. The five teams below are all schools having very good seasons but each has flaws that should come into consideration when filling out your bracket. Read More »

Stephen Curry Drops 54 In Madison Square Garden; Monta Ellis Hits The Year’s Craziest Buzzer-Beater

Stephen Curry

How hot was Stephen Curry last night in Madison Square Garden? He said afterward that his teammates were treating him like a pitcher in the middle of a no-hitter. No one would speak to him. It worked for most of the night. Curry was a savage, scoring 54 points and making 11 of 13 three-pointers. Read More »

James Harden Can’t Get Revenge On OKC; Eric Gordon Is Back

Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant (photo. Nike)

The last time James Harden played against his old team, he had a nightmare game, a half dozen of his shots blocked back into his face. This time, he made his first shot in Kevin Durant‘s face, and was good enough to drop 25 points (still only 9-for-33 shooting against OKC this year). But while the first half played out like a tape from the old And1 video game, the second half became a mismatch, and the Thunder went on to win 124-94. Read More »

Anthony Davis

The first month of the college hoops season has already had enough defining moments to warrant the Luther Vandross treatment.

There was the poignant high of Coach K surpassing his mentor Bob Knight as the all-time leader in NCAA D-I coaching wins; the gut-wrenching (and ongoing) low of Syracuse assistant Bernie Fine throwing his program into scandal; the inspiring comeback stories of Arizona forward Kevin Parrom and Kansas forward Thomas Robinson; made-for-March upsets like UNLV over North Carolina, Presbyterian over Cincinnati, and Central Florida over UConn; and big-time matchups like Ohio State vs. Duke, Kentucky vs. Kansas, and Syracuse vs. Florida that were dipped in Tournament atmosphere.

This past weekend, though, gave us the most thrilling game, the highest display of talent, and the most grand exhibition of the best of college basketball, all wrapped in one 40-minute showcase in Lexington, Ky. Here is that game, plus the rest of the best and worst of the weekend: Read More »

Hidden between the lines of the most depressing sports stories of the week – Penn State’s cover-up scandal putting a dark cloud over college football, and the NBA lockout threatening to put pro basketball on indefinite hiatus – are two words that should cheer up anybody who frequents this site: “college” and “basketball.” Read More »

*College basketball is here (unlike the NBA), and this year might be one of the best in recent memory. The powerhouse is back, while the Cinderellas believe. That’s a deadly combination. We know some of y’all have been asking for some previews. We have you covered – the top 16 teams in the nation will be previewed individually in the next few weeks. After we broke down Vandy on Friday, we’ll keep this going with No. 8-ranked Louisville and No. 6-ranked Duke later today (ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll).* Read More »
