We spend a ton of time on Twitter every day. We have to, it’s the fastest way to get breaking NBA news and information and to connect with our readers, basketball fans and other basketball outlets.
Along the way though, we find ourselves laughing every single day at the tweets from NBA players, bloggers and fans. We decided that every afternoon we’re going to put the best tweets we see that day in one place for our dimemag.com readers who either aren’t on Twitter or don’t have the time to sit and follow tons of feeds all day long like we do.
With the NBA Trade Deadline less than 30 hours away, every team’s GM has their BlackBerry perpetually plugged into their charger. Things are getting crazy, and as more and more trades begin to happen, the rumors are only becoming more intense. One team that many think could benefit from a trade is the Milwaukee Bucks. Do they ship Kurt Thomas to a contender? Does anybody want Michael Redd? Do they do anything this season, or just kind of ride it out? With all this in mind, I got up with Jeremy Schmidt of Bucksketball to try and figure out the Bucks’ next move. Read More »
30. New Jersey Nets (3-40)
Last week: Lost at Phoenix; lost at Golden State; lost at Utah.
You know how some teams can play any style and win? The Nets have become adept at losing with any style. Last week they lost trying to run. They also lose in the halfcourt, lose when they go big, lose when they go small, lose with a youth movement, lose with vets, lose at home, lose on the road … their company softball team probably stinks, too.
29. Minnesota Timberwolves (9-36)
Last week: Lost to Oklahoma City; lost to New Orleans; lost at Milwaukee.
If you’re into moral victories, the Wolves can be proud of at least taking the Thunder and Hornets down to the wire. The talent and competitiveness is there; you just see the execution failures that come with a young team. Read More »
I’ll be honest, until real recently, I just haven’t given the due credit deserved to both Andrea Bargnani and the Toronto Raptors for picking him up in 2006. After watching his 22 and eight performance last night in the Raptors’ 106-105 win against the Lakers, I guess I’ve just kind of held a blind eye to the 7-foot Italian. With both Bargnani and rook DeMar DeRozan playing well this season – and yes, I know Bargnani was putting up over fifteen a game last season – it got me thinking about just how far T-Dot has come since drafting its worst player in franchise history: Rafael Araujo. After 30-something games of tinkering with rotations, dealing with injuries and middling through their typical slow start, we got the feeling last night was the real beginning of this season for the Spurs. In handing the visiting Lakers a 20-piecing that admittedly gets an asterisk because Pau Gasol (hamstring) was sidelined and Kobe (back) sat out the fourth quarter, San Antone nonetheless showed a consistent level of energy and execution they’ve been looking for all year. Beast of the Night:Stephen Curry orchestrated a beautiful line to the tune of 26 points, 6 threes, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and 2 turnovers. He shot 77 percent (10-13) from the field, hitting all six of his three-point attempts. His minutes and production has been erratic lately but the rookie’s been producing impressive all-around numbers lately and is an outright thief, averaging 2.4 steals per game during the last month. After Rajon Rondo and Michael Beasley put their stamp on last night’s Heat/Celtics game (more on that later), the old guys took over when it mattered most. Boston was up one with about two minutes left when Kevin Garnett hit a jumper to extend the lead to three, then after D-Wade missed a three, Ray Allen knocked down a triple that he was wide open for since Wade was flattened by a Kendrick Perkins screen. Wade got himself to the line and made a pair of free throws, but when Jermaine O’Neal had a chance to cut the lead in half with a minute left, he bricked both of his freebies. With 38 seconds left, Garnett (24 pts, 11-12 FG) hit another jumper that was essentially the dagger and celebrated by, um, smacking himself on the head multiple times like he was trying to shake some cobwebs out. That dude is stone-cold crazy and we love him for it … Read More »
