One of the more prominently promoted features of the new NBA 2K12 is the ability to play with great teams from NBA history. Ostensibly, this would allow one to discover who the greatest squad ever was, albeit in a virtual and fictional setting. Is it Jordan and the 72-win Bulls? Bird and the ’86 Celtics? The Kobe-Shaq Lakers? The Duncan-Robinson Spurs? Make it a head-to-head contest, and you can find your answer. Read More »
While exhibition games are cool, there’s nothing quite like basketball in league form. And with the NBA on hold, this month’s “Lockout League” at Impact Basketball in Las Vegas brought us the next best thing. With that, check out the full recap from our friends at Hoopmixtape. Enjoy!
The Charlotte Bobcats are next on our list of NBA teams to analyze from a fantasy basketball perspective. This renovated roster now lacks a captain but includes a new (yet fragile) gunner on offense. The mostly unappealing personnel and murky situation at the point means fantasy owners should approach this team with some apprehension. There might not be a lot to love in Charlotte, but there’s still fantasy value to be had. Let’s see where it might be. Read More »
There are some things in life more important than basketball. When you’re a kid, if you really love the game, you swear it’s all gonna work out for you and that someday you will make money off this game and someday this game will make you famous. Once you get older, things are put in perspective (usually). Only then, professional athletes become our fantasy world and we view them only as how much entertainment can they provide us? How good can they make our teams? How much joy can they bring to our lives? Sometimes when athletes don’t reach their potential or flame out early or just don’t care as much as we do about the actual sport, we get angry. But at least we can respect Yao Ming for his reasons on leaving the game. Read More »
David Stern says he doesn’t think the entire season will be lost, explaining there’s too much at stake, too much to lose. We want to believe him, but we’ve heard the song before. While many outsiders are assuming a mass flood of players going to Europe and China would put enormous pressure on Stern and the NBA, the commish isn’t worried. He told Bill Simmons: “All that stuff is better to read about than to actually do.” Ouch … Read More »
Though that horrible “L” word has finally slammed the NBA’s doors shut, fantasy basketball fans can rest assured that this young (and abruptly suspended) offseason has already offered morsels of activity to chew on. Old faces have landed in new places, which means there’s some fantasy analysis to be had. Here’s a look at how these early-summer trades will impact fantasy basketball once this real-life mess gets sorted out. Read More »
It’s crazy the difference a year makes. Last year at this time, the media attention swirling around the NBA was actually picking up steam. Game 7 of the 2010 Finals was an afterthought compared to the free agency craze. Atlanta got so hyped up, they threw Birdman money at Joe Johnson. Cleveland got so hell bent, they were ready to tear down buildings. We were throwing July 8th office parties. Miami was throwing “We are gonna win 10 championships” parties. And LeBron nearly ruined himself. Read More »
As we mentioned, the Bucks were the real winners in the draft’s only mega-deal, combining with Charlotte and Sacramento in an exchange that netted them Stephen Jackson, Beno Udrih, Shaun Livingston and the No. 19 pick, Tobias Harris. They flushed out some dead weight (Corey Maggette, John Salmons), players who were supposed to take them to the next level last year, but ended up pairing to destroy the offense and dampen expectations. And the 2011 NBA Draft trade madness has begun! According to multiple reports, a three-team trade involving the Sacramento Kings, Charlotte Bobcats and Milwaukee Bucks has just been finalized.
The deal looks like this: Sacramento gets John Salmons and moves back three spots to the 10th pick. The Bobcats move up to pick seven and acquire Corey Maggette from Milwaukee. The Bucks move all the way back to pick 19 and acquire Stephen Jackson, Beno Udrih and Shaun Livingston.

They say that kids grow out of video games. Well I don’t know who “they” is, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. I was never good enough to play the game professionally (or collegiately, for that matter), but that never prevented me from submerging myself in all things basketball. So I follow it, I write about it, I breathe it. I even live vicariously through basketball animations in NBA 2K11.
Yesterday I learned that parents are wrong – video games can be educational. Read More »
