Last year was a rough 365 days for fans of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs fell apart in the playoffs, have started this year at a chilling 8-26 and in between were victims of LeBronGate. Through it all though, Daniel “Boobie” Gibson has remained a fan favorite. And now for the first time in his career, he’s been asked to be more than just a role player, more than just a standstill shooter. While Gibson has missed the past few games with a leg injury, he’s averaging career highs across the board with 13.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. We caught up with him recently to chat about his new role on this season’s squad and what it takes to become a deadly shooter. Read More »

Beast of the Night: Eric Gordon blasted the Timberwolves with 36 points, 1 rebound, 6 assists, 5 steals and 5 threes. He shot 61 percent (14-23) from the field, 60 percent (3-5) from the free-throw line and had just one turnover. Gordon’s previous three games were a bit mild, but he’s still having a fantastic season, improving his numbers in every category except for three-pointers made and turnovers. Read More »

Beast of the Night: Paul Pierce killed the Knicks last night with 32 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, 2 threes and a game-winning jumper right in Amar’e Stoudemire’s goggled eye. He shot 56 percent (10-18) from the field, 100 percent (10-10) from the free-throw line and had two turnovers. Pierce has been relatively quiet in December but this game reminds his owners that there’s nothing to worry about. Read More »

Byron Scott didn’t sign up for this. And if the Cleveland Cavaliers’ collapse gets much worse, future franchise building block J.J. Hickson won’t re-sign up for it, either.
The Cavs’ losing streak stretched to eight games last night when they were routed in Oklahoma City. Seven of the losses have been by double-digits, and four have been by at least 20 points. Read More »

One week ago, the NBA’s most endearing underdogs ran into a 6-8, 260-pound brick wall wearing a headband.
Before last Thursday’s meeting with LeBron James and his Miami Heat, the Cleveland Cavaliers were 7-10. Today, the Cavs are 7-15. They haven’t cracked triple-digits on the scoreboard since Nov. 26. They’ve lost six games in a row, and only one of those by a single-digit margin. The Cavs who showed up on national TV last week were a team that didn’t have enough scorers, didn’t have enough shooters, didn’t know how to play defense, and more importantly, didn’t seem to care one way or the other. Beast of the Night: Andrea Bargnani torched the Knicks with 41 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and 2 threes. He shot 67 percent (16-24) from the field, 78 percent (7-9) from the free-throw line and had just one turnover. He continues to score well, but his rebounding and blocks are down from last season’s marks, as are his minutes, curiously enough. Bargnani remains a great big man to own, especially for small-balll teams. Read More »

The score was 118-90 on Thursday night as LeBron James returned to Cleveland, but don’t be fooled: There were no winners. The night was filled with angry fans, awkward interactions between LeBron and his former teammates, and, for the most part, uninteresting basketball. The game confirmed what we’ve learned over the first month of the NBA season, but taught us nothing else about Miami or Cleveland. Read More »

Beast of the Night: LeBron James had himself a fine homecoming, finishing with 38 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 steal, 1 block and no turnovers. He shot 60 percent (15-25) from the field, 67 percent (6-9) from the free-throw line and hit three three-pointers in just 30 minutes of boo-filled action. Twenty-four of his points came in the third quarter. I guess it doesn’t matter if Akron hates him – James is unapologetically enjoying “the greatness” in South Beach, though his fantasy owners probably wouldn’t use that word at this point in the season. Beast of the Night: Dirk Nowitzki put up 42 points, 12 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks, 1 turnover and hit 3 threes last night against the Pistons. He shot 57 percent (13-23) from the field and 81 percent (13-16) from the free-throw line. Diggler had a rocky start to the season but is starting to heat up lately. Read More »

Buy Low: Dirk Nowitzki: Diggler’s been a mixed bag so far this season. Though he’s improved his shooting from the field and rebounding, all of his other averages have fallen from where they were last season, and his turnovers have risen. His value has always been his efficient shooting and his ability to average close to one steal, one block and one three per game. While the shooting is still there, the steals, blocks and threes are not, which puts a real dent in his value. Still, Nowitzki is too good to remain a player with second- or third-round value, which is what he’s given his owners so far. His bum ankle will heal soon enough, and so will his fantasy value.
