Joe Johnson, LeBron ruin Michael Jordan’s night; plus more March Madness drama

Joe Johnson (photo. Zach Wolfe)

While Day 2 of the NCAA Tournament wasn’t as wild and crazy as Day 1, it wasn’t without drama. But we’ll get to that in a little bit … Apparently not worried about the college competition, the NBA had an 11-game schedule that included some good matchups. Hawks/Bobcats featured the return of Joe Johnson, who’d missed a couple games with an Achilles injury. As Michael Jordan (Joe’s boss at Jordan Brand) sat courtside, Joe had only two points through three quarters, then he dropped buckets unexpectedly like bird s***, dominating the fourth and overtime. NBA Sophomore Class vs. The Rookies: Who’s Better?

Russell Westbrook, Dime #43

I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again: In just about every sport, you can’t accurately judge a draft class for at least three years after the fact (and longer than that in baseball).

Going into the ‘09 NBA Draft, everybody decided early that the class was weak, but look around the League now. Tyreke Evans and Stephen Curry look like certified future superstars, while Brandon Jennings isn’t far behind. Read More »

Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 3.16

Beast of the Night: Carmelo Anthony finished with 45 points, 3 threes, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block and 1 turnover. He shot 51 percent (18-35) from the field and 86 percent (6-7) from the free throw line. He’s lost some of the luster he had earlier in the season but is still having a much-improved season. Best (and Worst) NBA nicknames according to Dime readers

Paul Pierce, Dime #5

Last week we asked the Dime faithful for your favorite and least-favorite NBA nicknames. Reader Chaos best summed up ours and everyone else’s general feeling: “We need to start giving players real nicknames man. I miss those days. How can you beat Hakeem the Dream, Air Jordan, Sir Charles, The Admiral, Clyde the Glide and The Worm. All the names these days are lazy like Melo, CP3, CB4, King James, Joe Jeezy … smh.” Read More »

Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 3.9

Beast of the Night: Manu Ginobili torched the Cavs with 38 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 2 turnovers, nailing 7 threes in the process. He shot 52 percent (12-23) from the field and 100 percent (7-7) from the line and is poised to be huge for the Spurs (and his fantasy owners) down the final stretch of the season. Read More »

“We Want T-Mac!”

(photo. Marc Morrison)

It took about 22 seconds for the wounded, jaded Knicks fans at MSG to fall in love with Tracy McGrady. As soon as Knicks/Thunder tipped off and it became obvious T-Mac was the best player on the team and genuinely psyched to be in New York, the crowd was his. McGrady dropped 26 points (10-17 FG) and 5 assists in what was the most electric NY home game of the year, blowing past defenders for and-ones, hitting jumpers off-glass, and making some sick passes … With eight minutes to go in the fourth, the Knicks were down four and the crowd started chanting “We want T-Mac!” Read More »

Pass the Mic: Dime readers pick the NBA trade deadline winners & losers

Some think KG's squad lost

Earlier today, Dime posted its NBA trade deadline winners and losers. But you all know your teams better than we do. So we asked our readers to rank their own winners and losers, with the best of them listed here:

WINNERS

The Cavs are way better now that they have Jamison instead of Amar’e. Here’s why: (1) Amar’e doesnt like Shaq. (2) Amar’e wants to be the unequivocal MAN on his team. That’s not happening with the Cleveland LeBrons. Read More »

Live From the Rookie/Sophomore Practice

According to Twitter, about 7 hours ago I was on the bus to the Rookie/Sophomore practice. And I knew then, as I know now, that today was going to be a BUSY day! Not only is it making it to all the events, and battling the countless numbers of journalists and reporters from all around the world, but it’s getting a few minutes to talk with guys that you really want to talk to. And this morning, I was able to do just that. Read More »

Omri Casspi Dunks On Danilo Gallinari

Perhaps it was fitting that Omri Casspi put on a show at Madison Square Garden last night. For Jewish Heritage Night, the Israeli native came out of nowhere to rise and dunk on Italian Danilo Gallinari.
