The Knicks Survive; Philly Is The Best Team No One Is Talking About

Carmelo Anthony

The Knicks haven’t exactly been outclassing people, but a win is a win even if it took them all of 48 minutes to get one over the Bobcats. Carmelo Anthony (6-for-18, 22 points) struggled for most of the night, but when it counted he hit the buckets and free throws, and gobbled up enough boards to send New York home with a much-needed four-point win. Charlotte had their chances. Down one in the final 20 seconds, D.J. White missed a crazy jumper off the bounce (who drew that one up?). Then, D.J. Augustin (12 points, eight boards) hit a wild three on the following possession to make it a one-point game. Read More »

Chase-Down Block Death Match: Kyrie Irving Vs. Kevin Durant

Kyrie Irving

When we saw Kyrie Irving catch D.J. Augustin slipping, we figured that would end up being the top block of the night. Channeling LeBron James in his old home? Not much can beat it. But then Kevin Durant – during one of his worst games as a pro – came out of nowhere on our man Wesley Matthews to give perhaps the best defensive highlight we’ve seen from him in a while. Chase-down blocks are becoming all the rage in the NBA recently, and we’ve got another death match for you right here. Hit the jump for the videos. Read More »

MJ vs. MJ: Past and Present

Michael Jordan

One of the more prominently promoted features of the new NBA 2K12 is the ability to play with great teams from NBA history. Ostensibly, this would allow one to discover who the greatest squad ever was, albeit in a virtual and fictional setting. Is it Jordan and the 72-win Bulls? Bird and the ’86 Celtics? The Kobe-Shaq Lakers? The Duncan-Robinson Spurs? Make it a head-to-head contest, and you can find your answer. Read More »

D.J. Augustin Channels Kemba Walker For The Game-Winner

Look familiar? Just like what Kemba Walker did to 6-11 Gary McGhee in the Big East Tournament, D.J. Augustin did to 7-0 Brook Lopez last night. It doesn’t get prettier than this.

Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 4.6

David Lee

Beast of the Night: David Lee posted 29 points, 20 rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block last night. He shot 77 percent (13-17) from the field, 100 percent (3-3) from the foul line and had four turnovers. This was the kind of line many fantasy owners expected to see from Lee this season, but he fell short of expectations, thanks in part to Wilson Chandler’s tooth. In the past month, however, Lee has averaged top-12 numbers. He shouldn’t be forgotten on draft day next fall. Read More »

Kevin Durant Steals Hearts in Philly; Michael Jordan names his MVP

Kevin Durant

Why, KD? Why? Count on Kevin Durant and the Thunder to screw up a perfectly good story. With Philly leading OKC for almost the entire game, we were all set to officially jump on the Sixers’ bandwagon until Oklahoma City came back to send the game into overtime, where they ended up winning by five. Durant (34 points, 16 rebounds) was a force of nature and had five straight points to end regulation, including a curl three to tie it with three seconds left. There wasn’t a whole lot Andre Iguodala could do to handle Durant, even coming off his destruction of Danny Granger on Tuesday night. The Philly color guys crooned, “With all respect to Danny Granger, this is not Danny Granger. This is a guy on another planet.” Between Durant and Russell Westbrook (27 points, 12 rebounds), Philly could never get the momentum back in the extra session. It’s hard to beat a team that has two superheroes … No one is talking about this Sixers team. Read More »
