TAG: Doc Rivers

A few weeks ago, I listed Glen Davis as one of the top five pending unrestricted free agents in the NBA Playoffs. And even though he all but disappeared during the Celtics’ short postseason run – averaging an abysmal 4.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per game – I’d still put him on this list. But as Big Baby enters the summer with no locker to hang his jersey, the reality begins to set in that he may be taking his talents elsewhere. Read More »

You think you know, but you have no idea. Find out how Austin Rivers, the Dime/2K Sports National High School Player Of The Year, transformed from a regular, lovable kid to a cold-blooded basketball assassin, hated on for his dominance and swagger on the court. Read More »

It’s officially “No Country For Old Men.” Talent kept Miami in it for 44 minutes. But intensity won it for them in the final four. The Heat finished their series-ending 97-87 win over Boston on a crazy 16-0 run. Want to know how polarizing LeBron is? On back-to-back tweets in our Twitter feed, we saw the words “classless” and “classy” when describing his end-of-game celebration/comments. For everything he’s had to go through this year, LeBron’s late-game heroics were an enormous “How my booty taste?” to all of the haters. Read More »

This could be it for one of the most dominant players in NBA history. At the very least, it’s looking like it’ll be it for the rest of this season. While attempting to come back from a troublesome calf injury this weekend, Shaquille O’Neal played just 12 restricted minutes, and was barely able to get up and down the court. Now, it sounds like unless the Celtics extend their season not just beyond tonight, but into the next round, Shaq will sit it out. Read More »

So Grant Hill finally came out and said it: the Pistons basically screwed him over. Everyone knows the story by now: the once-great Hill, sure to be one of the best players ever to play the game with numbers after six years that have only been rivaled by LeBron James, Oscar Robertson and Larry Bird, leaves Detroit with an injured ankle, it’s never taken care of, his career is completely diminished, or destroyed, and it takes the trainers in Phoenix to bring the former Dukie back to life in his late 30s. You know how when people are discussing NBA prospects like Jimemr Fredette and everyone ā doesnāt matter if itās an NBA TV talking head or your boy ā always hits you with the āWhoās he gonna guard in the NBA?ā question? The answer, invariably, is almost always, ā No one.ā And thatās because good offensive NBA players cannot be stopped. By anyone. NBA players are the best athletes in the world ā no one man can stop an offensively-skilled pro from putting the ball in the bucket. That fact was on full display for all to see last night in the Bulls/Celtics game as Derrick Rose squared off with Rajon Rondo. If you asked 10 NBA scouts to name the best defensive guard in the league, thereās a very good chance they would all go with Rondo, which means heās arguably the best defensive guard in the world. And Rose lit him up, going for 30 points (on 9-16 shooting!) and eight assists in a 97-81 Bulls victory ⦠Read More »

Get āem some Lucky Charms. At this point in the season, anything can help. Moving into the playoffs, the second season, question marks remain. Conjuring up memories from last season shouldnāt really count. It was boredom and injuries then that caused Bostonās mediocre finish to the regular season (27-27 after a fast start), not a makeover.
No Kendrick Perkins, an injured Nenad Krstic and a glass-fragile Shaquille OāNeal are forcing the Celticsā hand. Read More »

It is a long season. If we go back a few months, youāll remember that San Antonio and Boston were way ahead of the pack and appeared destined to grab the two number-one seeds for this yearās playoffs. But since then, Boston became complacent and then completely changed their team while the Spurs ran out of good luck, catching injuries to all three of their big guns.
Now with the two teams matching up tonight, the question looms: Who has the better chance to win it all this year?
We argue. You decideā¦. Read More »

If you know anything about high school basketball, you know that name Austin Rivers. And yesterday afternoon, the Winter Park (Fla.) High School shooting guard added to his legacy, winning the 2011 Morgan Wootten Player of the Year Award in Chicago.
āIām very surprised to receive this award and it means a lot to me,ā said Rivers, the top-ranked player in the High School Hoop National Top 50. āIāve seen a lot of great players win this award so itās a great feeling.ā Read More »

It has been 13 years since professional basketball first said hello to Paul Pierce, and luckily, the face of the gameās most decorated franchise hasnāt changed. Living for this moment, Pierce goes to work every night and succeeds in the shadow of irony: an underappreciated star who doubles as the greatest scorer in Celticsā history. For the world, that should be enough. Read More »
