You know those players who over time fail to live up to their deal and by the end of it – speaking of the last year or two – when their trade value spikes and they’re referred to as “So and so’s contract?” Well, that’s sort of where Rashard Lewis is. He’ll be the second-highest paid player in the league next season, and for the last year or so hasn’t looked at all like the guy who once regularly dropped 20 a night in Seattle, or even the three-point specialist during his first run in Orlando. Injuries have played a big part. The situation with the lockout has put added attention onto the contract of a guy who has become the very definition of a one-dimensional player. Lewis is promising next year won’t be like that. He’s working out, showed more explosiveness in the Impact League and even had platelet rich plasma treatment in March. Read More »
Besides getting some sweet new kicks from Reebok, John Wall celebrated his 21st birthday in NYC last Thursday with a star-studded party at Greenhouse. As you can see in the video below, Carmelo Anthony, Kemba Walker, Baron Davis, Drake, Diddy, Swizz Beatz, DJ Khaled, and Jim Jones came out to support the young fella.
Derrick Rose is going to win multiple championships. That’s straight from the MVP’s mouth. Doesn’t it really feel as if Rose won the MVP like five years ago? Between the lockout, Capital Punishment and Kevin Durant becoming the story of the summer, D-Rose became lost in the shuffle. He likes it like that though, and will probably remain mute until next season officially starts. But he did give us a taste of the competitiveness that has Chicago looking pretty good for the next decade, telling HoopsHype that he will win multiple titles, and has no doubts about it. Read More »
In the new issue of XXL which hits newsstands today, cover guy Lil Wayne talks about the release of his highly anticipated new album, Tha Carter IV, in addition to his retirement plans, Drake and Nicki Minaj’s success, and why he’ll never record with Justin Bieber. But in addition to all that, Weezy takes us back to Sunday, June 12, when he was spotted partying with the Dallas Mavericks at LIV in Miami Beach. If the NBA made a commercial with a talking Larry O’Brien Trophy, this is what it would say: Read More »
There’s probably no other album that people are anticipating more right now than Drake‘s upcoming sophomore effort, Take Care. And while we’ve heard two tracks so far – “Trust Issues” and “Marvins Room” – Drizzy and his October’s Very Own crew just dropped the music video for the latter. While the lyrics might be NSFW, the dark video is excellently filmed.
It seems like Kemba Walker is everywhere these days, and he’s only going to become more popular once he hits the League. So in preparation for this Thursday’s NBA Draft, Kemba teamed up with DJ Skee to drop the “EZ Pass” mixtape, featuring music inspired by and inspiring to the future lottery pick from Rick Ross, Drake, Kanye West, Wale, Lil Wayne and much, much more. Check out the tracklist and download it after the jump. Read More »
Austin Rivers, Anthony Davis and Michael Gilchrist have received the most attention amongst the Class of 2011 high school prospects, but you’d be crazy to overlook Myck Kabongo. The 6-2 point guard headed to Texas has a handle that can break down just about any defender, an innate ability to hit the open man and a lethal jumper with deep range that will cause issues for Big 12 opponents next year. We got up with the Toronto product this past weekend at the Jordan Brand Classic in Charlotte to discuss his off-court interests, his high school career – that included stops at two of the country’s premier programs – and his goals for next year. “It’s good to be home, New Orleans.” That’s what Lil Wayne told the audience last night after taking the stage in front of a sold-out crowd at New Orleans Arena. As part of his “I Am Still Music” tour, Weezy treated the hometown fans to surprise appearances by Drake and Chris Paul. But I don’t think CP knew this was going to happen when Nicki Minaj invited him out. I mean, he was wearing a Young Money chain…
As I said earlier, from games to parties to appearances, there wasn’t a free second to be had during NBA All-Star Weekend. So for those of you that weren’t able to make the trip, I wanted to give you an inside-look into everything that was going on. With that, check out the entire weekend in pictures (and be sure to click on the next day at the end of the post). Read More »
