A wise man once said “I swear sports and music are so synonymous ‘cause we want to be them, and they want to be us.” There is a lot of truth in that quote, especially considering the influence the game basketball has had on the lyrics of our favorite hip hop artists. Emcees since the beginning of time have been referencing the NBA in their music. From Kurtis Blow to Jay-Z, the game of basketball and the rap game are inextricably linked. Read More »
On Friday night, Dime got a chance to visit the Barclays Center for Brooklyn’s home opener against Miami. The good people at Reebok invited us to their suite for the release of the Reebok Q96 and Pumpspective Omni and a chance to play a little ball on Barclay’s herringbone parquet court after the game. Little did we know we’d get Allen Iverson to open up about his feelings and his critics. Read More »
The rain didn’t stop Kevin Durant, David Lee, Jay Williams and others from donning the Hillsong NYC uniform for the EBC Rucker Park All-Star game, which was moved to Gauchos gym in the Bronx. We had a chance to speak with some of the newest players in the NBA last week during the 2013 NBA Rookie Photo Shoot as part of the four-day Rookie Transition Program that wrapped last Friday. While we enjoyed some of the high-jinks during the all-day affair, we also had to talk over a thrumming bass line as hip hop blared in the background for most of the day.
The loud setting plus the incredible lyrical moment from Kendrick Lamar during the debut of the Big Sean track, “Control” last night — featuring a K. Dot verse where he goes after most of his peers in the rap game — synthesized around our rookie mix. Read More »

This was one of those nights in the sports industry that becomes hard to talk about without sounding like a braggart and a name-dropper.
For last night’s Knicks/Celtics game at Madison Square Garden, I used my media credential to go behind the scenes and visit both locker rooms. When it was time for tip-off, I used my invite to a luxury suite — where I was part of a select group brought in to celebrate the launch of KnicksNow.com, the team’s new interactive social media website — to watch the game from the rich-people seats with rich-people amenities. And then after the game, maybe the best of the NBA season so far, I used my media pass again to access the locker rooms and catch the aftermath of an instant classic. Here’s how it all went down: Read More »
So after I got up with Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade over at House of Hoops, the night was just getting started. See when Jordan Brand does something, they do it big. So rather than just putting an installation inside legendary sneaker boutique Atmos, they decided to redo the whole place. And sure enough, Fabolous and Jadakiss came through. Check out the pictures after the jump. Read More »
