With 342 Division I basketball teams in America, there will always be teams that fly under the radar. Every year, every tournament, there will be bracket busters and new faces. Spring is a time of new life. And March always brings us fresh, unknown blood. We’re at the midway point in the year and there are a few teams that could gain some steam as the years goes on. There’s a reason that basketball has been thriving again in Manhattan, Kansas. And it’s less about Bob Huggins, Michael Beasley and Bill Walker’s respectively quick residencies; it has to do with Coach Frank Martin and his beast of a senior guard, Jacob Pullen. Read More »

Now that the Top 25 has come out, it is time to preview some of the best college teams in the 2010-11 season. The key to having a successful team is having the perfect blend of athleticism, fundamentals and chemistry. Last week, we broke down was the No. 2 ranked team, the Michigan State Spartans. This week’s profile will be on Frank Martin’s Kansas State Wildcats. Read More »

After the NBA Draft and before Midnight Madness, it seems nobody really talks about college basketball. While free agency and trades in the pros dominate the headlines, now is the time where your favorite NCAA team is gearing up and building the chemistry that could carry them to a national championship. The recruits are on campus, the returners are learning their new roles, and coaches are devising game plans. Here is my pre-preseason national Top-10: Read More »

Rewind to three years ago, when it looked like it might be all over for Denis Clemente. After two suspensions for violations of team rules, including one beginning midseason that lasted until year’s end, Miami Hurricanes head coach Frank Haith dismissed the talented sophomore point guard from his squad. Faced with a mandatory transfer redshirt year, Clemente made the move to Manhattan, Kansas to rejuvenate his career as a Wildcat. Now, with two All-Big 12 selections and one prestigious All-American award to his name, one thing is clear: a lot can change in three years. Read More »

It’s safe to say that in one year, John Calipari has turned Kentucky into NBA U. With five players slated to go in the first 20 picks of this year’s NBA Draft, and commitments last week from top-five players in the Class of 2010 (Brandon Knight) and Class of 2011 (Michael Gilchrist) – not to mention All-American senior Doron Lamb – you’d think Coach Cal would take a day off. Think again. While there are still some outstanding players who might commit to the Wildcats for next year, Calipari is focusing his attention on the Class of 2012. Read More »

It’s Championship Week in college basketball, otherwise known as the week of tournaments before THE Tournament. And honestly, it seems this year people only really care about two conference tourneys: the Big East and the Big 12 … maybe the ACC based on history and hype.
So far I’ve previewed the Big East and the Pac-10 (hometown allegiance); next up is the Big 12. Read More »

At one time in his life, LeBron James was just simply LeBron James. Back when he was growing up in Akron, Ohio playing basketball at the local community center, without Sports Illustrated knocking on his front door and asking to put him on their cover, Bron was just a kid who loved to play basketball and happened to be pretty good at it. But the world we live in today is always looking for the Next Big Thing and sometimes they’re harder to find than others. Don’t worry though, I was able to find him in Wichita, Kansas and his name is Perry Ellis. Read More »
