“He’s wasted his talent.” “He’s soft.” “He doesn’t care.” Vince Carter has heard nearly every insult you could ever throw at a player. But none of that takes away from this: He is the greatest dunker this game has ever seen.
With the recent news that Suns coach Alvin Gentry was benching VC in favor of Jared Dudley, some are taking this as a sign that Carter’s career is pretty much over. But in Wednesday night’s loss against the Thunder, Carter went retro, scoring 28 points and giving us a nice baseline reverse. As the decade comes to a close, it seems like everywhere you look there is a best of the 2000s list. Even I was guilty of producing a best of list when listed best rookies of the decade. Don’t worry,this isn’t a best of list, I am simply asking which dunk from the last decade is your favorite? It doesn’t have to be the best dunk of the last ten years, just the one you will remember most. Maybe it is your favorite player dunking over your least favorite player or maybe it’s a dunk you experienced live. New York fans don’t trust their team. It’s not just the years spent under Isiah/James Dolan‘s reign of terror. It’s everything – the conspiracy theory that their best player in the last thirty years landed in NYC via a rigged lottery, the Frederic Weis incident, the false promise of Antonio McDyess-as-the-next-Charles Barkley, and even Allan Houston looking like the guy from Lost who doesn’t age.
But we didn’t realize that the rampant distrust reaches all levels of the organization.
