Rudy Gay Shows Out In His First Game Back From Injury

He’s back. After getting up with Rudy Gay last week in NYC, he told me that he could not wait to get back on the court. And after a positive report from the doctor on Monday, that’s exactly what he did. With that, check out Gay in his first game back from injury at the “Lockout League,” as well as all of the highlights from Day 6 in Vegas.

Danny Ainge: Cheating To Win

Boston Celtics

Two weeks ago, while the Celtics were destroying Miami in Game 2 of their first-round series and the announcers were telling stories to kill time, Reggie Miller recounted an incident from his playing days: While an opponent was shooting free throws, Jamaal Tinsley strategically tossed a towel in the air over on the Pacers’ bench within the shooter’s peripheral vision, drawing a technical foul. Reggie said he’d never seen that happen before or since, and wasn’t even sure it was a rule. Read More »

We Reminisce: No. 15 Hampton Upsets No. 2 Iowa State

As you’re surely glued to you T.V. watching No. 2 Villanova take on No. 15 Robert Morris in OT, I figured I’d pull up the footage from the last time a 15-seed defeated a 2-seed in the NCAA tournament. The year was 2001, and it was 15-seed Hampton who defeated 2-seed Iowa State, 58-57, after Jamaal Tinsley missed the winning lay-up.. Check it out.

NBA Trade Rumor: Mike Conley On The Block

Mike Conley

It’s been known for months now that Mike Conley had to earn his keep in Memphis. And after a five-game losing streak, that has the Grizzlies sitting back at .500, apparently his time is up. So if you’re in search of a point guard, and Sergio Rodriguez doesn’t do it for you, then Conley could be your guy. Read More »

Shaken Baller Syndrome

Chris Paul

Nothing against LeBron, Kobe, ‘Melo and the rest of the usual suspects, but if the Hornets make the playoffs, let’s just scrap the voting process and hand the MVP to Chris Paul. With his team battling to stay above .500 and tied for 10th in the West, CP might be carrying a bigger load than any superstar — and that’s only a “might be” because of Dwyane Wade … Hosting the red-hot Grizzlies, Paul again had to dominate just for N.O. to squeak out a win. He took over after Memphis went up by nine with 4:30 to go, scoring or assisting 17 of the Hornets’ final 20 points. With 40 seconds left, N.O. was up one when Paul (21 pts, 13 asts) froze Jamaal Tinsley with a series of shakes and stuck a mid-range jumper. “You just don’t want Child Welfare to come and say anything about the way he’s shaking him!” laughed announcer Gil McGregorRead More »

The Simple Life

Amar'e Stoudemire

Sometimes it’s simple and plain, and last night the Lakers simply got a plain ol’ meat-slapping from the Suns. After Robo-Kobe cut a double-digit lead in the second quarter to six by halftime, the Suns came out shooting like a bunch of Steve Alford clones, quickly pushing it back to double digits on jumpers by Channing Frye, Amar’e (26 pts), Grant Hill and Steve Nash (16 pts, 13 asts). The Lakers never really challenged them after that, and midway through the fourth, Phil Jackson officially waved the white flag by taking Kobe out … Read More »

NBA Hit List power ranking, 12.8

Shaquille O'Neal

Ranking the NBA from worst to first…

30. New Jersey Nets (1-19) — Brook Lopez is going to be this season’s Al Jefferson. His numbers should be enough to be an All-Star (18.9 ppg, 9 rpg), but his team’s record will ultimately keep him on the outside looking in.

29. Philadelphia 76ers (5-16) — The delirium of Allen Iverson’s return took about 40 minutes of game time to go back to the depression of a now 10-game losing streak. Read More »

Will the next Tyreke Evans please report to Indiana?

Tyreke Evans

Whether you believe Tyreke Evans is a true point guard or not (he’s not), last night was a textbook example of exactly why Sacramento drafted him to play the point.

On his way to dropping 26 points in a win over the Pacers, Tyreke scored the Kings’ first 10 points, and it was obvious the game plan going in was to get Tyreke off early. He used his height to shoot over T.J. Ford and Earl Watson; his strength and handle to easily drive past them; and his length to catch the ball near the rim on cuts and post-ups and get easy buckets.
