Miami’s pretty good when they put it together. The Spurs played perfectly through 24 minutes, and even got two ridiculous buzzer beaters from the same player, and yet it couldn’t stop them from getting completely stomped out on South Beach. After surrendering 63 first half points, the Heat responded with 71 of their own in the second half, LeBron and Bosh combined for 63 points and Miami ran away with the game, 120-98. Well that was ugly. On a night where the big stories were supposed to be Lamar Odom‘s return to Staples and Kobe‘s shot at a fifth-consecutive 40-point game, neither side could hit a shot and couldn’t get out of each other’s way. So it came down to a guy who’s shooting 33 percent and averaging 4.3 points a night. Derek Fisher (13 points) hit the game-winning three with three seconds left, and the Lakers won one of the ugliest games we’ve seen in a long time when Vince Carter‘s last-ditch look was off. You talkin’ about playoffs? The atmosphere in the Clippers overtime win over Miami felt like an NBA Finals game. Down the stretch, we can’t remember the last time we’d seen so many bodies hitting the deck. Miami really should’ve won it during regulation. But LeBron (23 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists) fouled Chauncey Billups on a three, as well as going half n’ half at the line two times in a row at the end of the game (Damn he looked uncomfortable at the end of the game). It stayed close all the way through the overtime until Mario Chalmers (18 points) missed a three. The Wizards are SO depressing to watch, and it’s not even because they can’t win a game. No one seems to care. JaVale McGee gets stripped in the lane and stands there looking all depressed like someone just jacked his all-black matte truck as the action takes off past him. Nick Young only seems to be into it when he’s scoring. The crowd seems like they’re listening to an opera instead of watching a basketball game. It’s not hard to figure out why this team is struggling. Damn Washington, you might suck but you should at least be exciting to watch. If we are going by simple expectations and projections, then Oklahoma City will be NBA champs within two years, Memphis will win 55-60 games next year, Kevin Durant will one day average 36 points a game, LeBron James and Miami will win at least one ring and the Clippers are set to win 50-plus every year for the next decade because they have Blake Griffin.

Outside of their beast in the middle and waterfall of threes, the Orlando Magic are a team of uncertainty for fantasy owners. Their starting shooting guard is most likely on his way out, their backup point guard appears more primed to stir up controversy on Twitter than do anything provocative anything on the court and a timeshare looks likely at the power forward position. All that said, there are open doors for a few players to assert themselves as fantasy stalwarts. According to The Cleveland Plain Dealer, Baron Davis is “eager” to start working with No. 1 overall pick Kyrie Irving. Davis told the Plain Dealer that Kyrie is immensely talented, creative, smart and has so much potential. Two years ago, Jameer Nelson was coming off by far the best season of his career (16.7 PPG, 50% from the field, 45% from deep, All-Star berth) and the Orlando Magic had advanced all the way to the NBA Finals. Now the team is moving in the wrong direction, going from the Eastern Conference Finals (2010) to the first round (2011).
As the Magic floor general nears 30 years old (birthday is in February), and with Dwight Howard‘s future up in the air, a likely shortened season also figures to be the most important of Nelson’s career. Read More »
