As you know, all eyes in the hoops world last night were on Kevin Durant‘s Oklahoma City Invitational. Couldn’t make it to the game? We got you. Here are highlights from KD’s 176-171 overtime victory in which Durant’s 42 points, 26 rebounds and 11 assists was countered by 56 from Michael Beasley. Check out the Top 10 plays from one of the best games of the lockout below.
After Philadelphia’s NBA All-Stars held it down in their home city and beat an All-Star squad that included LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul, Hakim Warrick declared they were the “champs” of the summer league circuit. But I think most people had to take that with a grain of salt. The originators of all of this is Washington, D.C. and their Goodman League team. They beat the Drew League, and everyone else for most of the summer. So it was only fitting that we would get a clash of the titans. Read More »
We’ve been showing you highlights all summer from Nike Pro City in NYC, but have you seen any of the action taking place in The District? The nation’s best ballers from D.C. took their talents to Georgetown’s McDonough Memorial Gymnasium this summer, including NBA players Jeff Green, Greg Monroe, Greivis Vasquez, Brandon Jennings, Ty Lawson, Nolan Smith and Josh Selby. See what went down…
Keeping up with the Joneses is a phrase that took on a life of its own, and when you look at it through NBA-colored glasses, you can see why: it’s a pretty popular last name. 45 NBA players have been named Jones, and while that’s a pretty cool stat, three other last names are actually more common among NBA/ABA players.
I’ve been busy the last few days, so I have not been able to catch much of Shark Week so far. But I assure you, it is one of my favorite weeks of the year. One of my lifelong goals is swimming with Whites. Definitely freaky, but I have to do it. Naturally during Shark Week, it’s only fitting to combine two things I love: sharks and basketball. Watching Great Whites feast on seals off the coast of South Africa is always the highlight of the week. For them it’s so simple: seek and destroy. Survive or die. Read More »
The common scapegoats for the way Boston’s season ended – abruptly and quietly – were Shaq and the absence of Kendrick Perkins. The man traded for ‘Perk – Jeff Green – doesn’t get mentioned nearly as much, and that’s confusing. But when you think about it, Green hardly did anything that warranted criticism. That’s because he hardly did anything at all. He just wasn’t around, oddly silent. Read More »
Over his 13-year NBA career, Paul Pierce has started in 961 regular season games out of a possible 964 for the Boston Celtics. In the postseason, he’s a perfect 110-for-110. But after losing to the Miami Heat on Wednesday night, sending him home for the summer, this somehow got the Celtics brass thinking about what to do with the nine-time All-Star and former NBA Finals MVP. And maybe, just maybe, it’d be better to bring him off the bench. Read More »
It’s officially “No Country For Old Men.” Talent kept Miami in it for 44 minutes. But intensity won it for them in the final four. The Heat finished their series-ending 97-87 win over Boston on a crazy 16-0 run. Want to know how polarizing LeBron is? On back-to-back tweets in our Twitter feed, we saw the words “classless” and “classy” when describing his end-of-game celebration/comments. For everything he’s had to go through this year, LeBron’s late-game heroics were an enormous “How my booty taste?” to all of the haters. Read More »
We haven’t done one of these in a while, so here’s a reminder on the ground rules: (1) The idea is that while each team has the same roster it had at the time of the draft, they have the added benefit of knowing how each potential draftee will turn out as of today. (2) You can’t predict injuries. (3) Potential still matters. (4) Lastly, you can’t predict how the rest of your roster will turn out.
All clear? With that, here’s my 2007 NBA Draft do-over: Read More »
40 games in 40 nights is nearly here. It’s the best time of the year hands down (don’t talk to us about March Madness…we don’t even need reasons to refute that). The best athletes in the world going back and forth for games and weeks, Kobe vs. Chris Paul, LeBron vs. the world, Brian Scalabrine vs. Boston. Why settle for less? Of course, Dime had to hold you down with a couple of previews of the action going on this weekend. Ever wondered what your high school coach would say to someone about Dwight Howard’s free-throw shooting? What about that 40-year-old at the park who never quits talking? If you’re more of the serious type and want to know the difference makers, the guys your squad needs to be watching out for, then we’ve got you covered too … Read More »
