Damian Lillard Takes Umbrage With Patrick Beverley’s “Irritating” Antics “Like Flopping”

During Houston’s comeback over Portland, the action in the backcourt was non-stop as Patrick Beverley refused to give ground to Portland’s all-star Damian Lillard. Beverley is a defensive agitator of the highest order; a Bruce Bowen for the digital age that laps up an opponent’s frustration and uses it to dig even deeper on the defensive end. After Lillard caught Beverley with an elbow to his mask-encased noggin in overtime, Lillard was assessed his sixth foul. After the game, Dame downplayed their battle while acknowledging Beverley was an irritant who might be embellishing the contact a bit. Read More »

With under 10 seconds remaining in regulation Sunday night, and the Rockets still trailing by three after Portland led each of the first three quarters, James Harden cut diagonally from top of the free throw circle into the near corner. He planted his feet, caught the inbounds pass and let fly a three-pointer that rattled home to tie the score and cement Houston’s comeback by forcing overtime against their Western Conference rival Trail Blazers. The NBA trade rumor-mill is at full capacity as we come up on the trade deadline at 3 p.m. ET tomorrow. One team that’s been at the center of the those rumors, is a Knicks team that’s scrambling to make the playoffs and appease star Carmelo Anthony before he opts-out of his contract at the end of the year. It seems the Knicks brain trust is actively shopping fan favorite Iman Shumpert, but only if teams are willing to take the under-performing Raymond Felton. Even former Knicks PG Jeremy Lin has been drawn into the mix. Read More »

After last night’s announcement of the 2014 NBA All-Star Game starters, there were obviously some disappointed players. But Rockets general manager, Daryl Morey, was perhaps the only executive to voice his displeasure about the fan-voted results on Twitter. He felt his guys Dwight Howard and James Harden, should have gotten picked, but failed to realize one of his other players got more votes. Read More »

The 20 Most Marketable NBA Players Ever

Penny Hardaway

As basketball continues to grow as a globalized sport, NBA players are raking in more endorsements and more opportunities than ever before. While NBA players get paid millions to play the game of basketball, some make most of their money off endorsements and business ventures/partnerships with companies. It is the only reason we see Kobe Bryant endorsing a Turkish airline, taking selfies around the world with soccer great Lionel Messi. Read More »

Kris Humphries

Ever since Blake Griffin unleashed the fury of a thousand suns on Kris Humphries, we’ve been waiting for the dunk to crumble his psyche like it did Kendrick Perkins and, less-so, Timofey Mozgov. But the Kardashian ex is immune to embarrassment (perhaps this a prerequisite for being with a Kardashian), and Monday night, he showed his commercial partner, James Harden, not to forget about him on the break. Even with a rain-delayed stoppage Houston coach Kevin McHale called, “crazy,” the Rockets defeated the Wizards, 114-107, in a Verizon Center arena with a leaky roof. The Wizard’s defense was just as leaky during a gorgeous Jeremy Lin lob for a ferocious Dwight Howard dunk. Read More »

After December’s initial All-Star balloting results, the NBA’s third ballot tallies were released today, and the biggest move was Golden State’s Stephen Curry leapfrogging LA’s Chris Paul into second place among the backcourt selections out West. Despite Kobe Bryant asking voters to select someone younger to represent the West, he’s still the No. 1 vote-getter among Western guards. Check out the rest of the voting numbers after the jump. GIF: Jeremy Lin Throws An Actual No-Look Pass

We’ve got a beef with — not just the overuse of poster dunk when the dunk in question isn’t all that impressive — the idea that a no-look pass has occurred when a player passes the ball, then looks the other way. LeBron James does this all the time, but we blame commentators for the misuse of the term more than anything a player does. Jeremy Lin, on the other hand, throws actual no-look passes that bamboozle defenders with misdirection. He did it again on Christmas Day. Read More »

The NBA’s 10 Best Backcourts

Chris Paul

Wesley Matthews (photo. Aaron Hewitt)

Injuries and underwhelming play have completely changed the dynamics of this list. You’re used to seeing backcourts like the Deron Williams-Joe Johnson duo in Brooklyn or the Steve Nash-Kobe Bryant tandem in Los Angeles or Oklahoma City’s pair in Russell Westbrook and Thabo Sefolosha. Even the tandem of Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler would stand out as one of the league’s top starting backcourts. Read More »
