Immediately following a Nets game in New Jersey last week, D-Will was scheduled to hop on a Red Bull helicopter in NJ to fly over the west side of Manhattan for a party being thrown in his honor by Red Bull to officially welcome him to the family. But havoc created by torrential rain and winds forced D-Will to find other means of making it to his own party. This is what went down: Read More »
Besides getting some sweet new kicks from Reebok, John Wall celebrated his 21st birthday in NYC last Thursday with a star-studded party at Greenhouse. As you can see in the video below, Carmelo Anthony, Kemba Walker, Baron Davis, Drake, Diddy, Swizz Beatz, DJ Khaled, and Jim Jones came out to support the young fella.
It’s been a minute sine Converse had national TV ads running, so when they launched their new Fall 2010 brand campaign entitled “The Procession” last night, you knew they’d come correct. Gritty and raw, the spot was directed by award-winning filmmaker Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Shooter) and stars Julius Erving, Carlos Arroyo, God Shammgod, Adrian “A-Butta” Walton, Jim Jones and Doug E. Fresh. Check it out and learn more about the spot (including behind the scenes footage) after the jump.
Anybody who wrote off the Celtics as legit championship contenders when they were struggling through that middle section of the regular season shouldn’t be talking now. Although the C’s did lose in yesterday’s Game 1 of the conference semifinals to Cleveland, they more than proved they can run with LeBron‘s team and this won’t be an easy series … Rajon Rondo put up Deron Williams numbers in the first half alone, dropping 19 points and 8 assists before the break as Boston was in control. Rondo finished with 27 and 12, and did it on an efficient 7-for-10 from the field and 12-for-14 at the line. But he can’t hit a three, so he obviously stinks, right? … Anyway, the Celtics were up double-digits midway through the third quarter before Mo Williams went off. Read More »
Now you know who won, but if you weren’t there, it’s kind of hard to imagine what your favorite musicians and rappers look like playing ball. So take a second to see all the action from today’s Converse Band of Ballers. Some highlights include Jim Jones and Jermaine Dupri talking continuous smack to one another, while Cam’ron showed up unannounced and played with The Jones Family. Check it all out after the jump. If you weren’t at today’s Converse Band of Ballers, you missed out. Bringing together Converse’s love of music, basketball and the city of Atlanta, seven teams battled it out 3-on-3 to be the champ. The teams include returning champs Jim Jones and The Jones Family (surprise guest Cam’ron, God Shammgod & Adrian “A-Butta” Walton), Jermaine Dupri and the So So Def Family, The Black Lips, Of Montreal, Steel Train, the Bad News team (Jay Electronica, Donnis & Sean Price) and the Southern Hospitality team (OJ Da Juiceman, Pill & Shawty Lo). In a gym small enough to make all the fans feel like they were a part of the action, the returning champs turned in a repeat performance. I got up with the day’s MVP A-Butta, as well as Capo and Shammgod after the game.
Converse held it’s first ever Band of Ballers Basketball Tournament last year – as different artists (including Jim Jones, Asher Roth, Pac Div, DJ A-Trak, Mad Decent, and Matt & Kim) and their respective entourages squared off in a 3-on-3 basketball tournament. I had the pleasure of being invited to last year’s successful event as it was hosted in New York City, but this year’s sequel will be held at a private location in Atlanta on May 1st. (And Dime’s Aron Phillips will be in attendance.) Read More »
Baron Davis schooling helpless New York City pedestrians? Classic. The fact it’s over a J Dilla track (from Dilla’s latest album, Jay $tay Paid, in which our boy DJ Reason A&R’d with Pete Rock) and has cameos from Common, DJ Clue, Jim Jones, and Irv Gotti (plus his Bentley) make it that much cooler.
Tomorrow at a secret location, Converse will host the first ever Band of Ballers 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament celebrating the launch of the new Converse Weapon EVO. If you want to be one of 20 lucky readers to win passes to the event featuring, amongst others, Jim Jones, Pac Div and Asher Roth, then answer the following question: Read More »
