To say that the Golden State Warriors fan base has been tortured over the years would be a huge understatement. It would be like calling Jackie Robinson important to baseball. He’s far more. There’s not a word to describe Jackie’s meaning to baseball. The Warriors fans have been beyond tortured, to the point where, again, there is no word to describe it. Read More »

Don Nelson spent nearly 50 years in the NBA, a very long time to be in any line of work. Yet as he makes the media rounds this week before he enters the Hall of Fame on Sept. 7, he makes it clear he wanted at least one more year in Golden State before owner Joe Lacob paid him $6 million to take his ball and go home in 2010 before training camp opened. Nellie — the NBA’s winningest coach — eventually did just that. Now, he’s having a hell of a great time at his adopted Maui home by the sounds of it, thank you very much. Read More »

One of the strangest events that happened in this lockout-shortened season was the Warriors jersey retirement ceremony for Chris Mullin. If you need a refresher of the night’s events, owner Joe Lacob got booed mercifully and fans had to be chided by Mullin and former Warriors great, Rick Barry. After all the booing subsided, the Warriors gifted the Mullin family an all-expense trip to Hawaii and finally hung his jersey up in the rafters. A strange ceremony, but a fitting tribute for one of the greatest players in Warrior history. Read More »

In case you hadn’t heard, the Warriors retired Chris Mullin‘s No. 17 last night in one of the most drawn-out jersey retirement ceremonies we’ve seen. Too bad the night wasn’t all his. It’ll forever be remembered – tainted – by Golden State’s owner Joe Lacob getting the treatment from the Warrior faithful. At first, Lacob appears shocked. Then he gets annoyed. Then it looks like he’s ready to find his mama and shed a few years. Read More »

Actually, we’re not even sure we should call Orlando a contender after last night. They fell apart and surrendered to Carlos Boozer and the Bulls, 85-59. At home. With Derrick Rose in street clothes. Boozer had 24 and 13 while John Lucas III continued to play out of his mind, burning Orlando in the first quarter and finishing with 20 points in 21 minutes, and helping steer Tom Thibodeau to 100 career coaching wins. Thibs is also the fastest coach in NBA history to reach that milestone … Read More »

The Golden State Warriors were down 17 to the Heat in the third quarter last night and were all but wrapped up as Miami’s latest victims. But then things stopped going Miami’s way and the threes started falling for the Warriors – before you knew it, Golden State had stolen one, 111-106.
Safe to say that few people enjoyed the comeback more than Warriors’ owner Joe Lacob. Check out his reaction after Dorell Wright tied the game with a three in the fourth quarter: Read More »

Add the Golden State Warriors to the growing list of teams that own and operate an NBA D-League affiliate. The team’s purchase of the Dakota Wizards makes them the fourth NBA team to own and operate its “minor league” team. They also join seven other teams in having one-to-one relationships with their affiliates. Read More »

Right after the Rockets hired Kevin McHale as their new head coach, he made one thing clear: Houston had to get big. So with the corpse of Yao Ming coming off the books this summer, they started by acquiring Donatas Motiejunas (7-0), Marcus Morris (6-9) and Chandler Parsons (6-9) on Draft Night to pair with Luis Scola (6-9) in the frontcourt. But apparently that was only just the start. They want Andris Biedrins. Read More »

Remember last fall when new Warriors owner Joe Lacob, fresh off writing the biggest check in NBA history, hired his son Kirk, a 22-year-old Stanford grad, as Golden State’s Director of Basketball Operations? Just eight months later, the younger Lacob has finished his first season in professional basketball management, including a thrilling (albeit unyielding) trade deadline, the firing and hiring of a new coach and an interview with The Logo himself. This week’s draft however, might be his biggest challenge yet. Read More »

It’s not a typical occurrence to we hear the Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics in the same sentence. You couldn’t get two teams that are more different. One plays a slow, grind-it-out tempo with an emphasis on defense and the other likes to run and score over 100 points in every game they play. The owner of the Warriors, however, wants to take a similar approach to the one that the Celtics took in putting together a championship team in 2008. Read More »
