Teams Have More Twitter Fun With #NBAMovies

Joel Embiid, Beetle Juice

A refreshingly large number of NBA teams have upped their Twitter ante recently, adding photoshops, memes, and general engagement to common posts of team updates and franchise promotions. Many killed it earlier this summer with #NBASitcoms, an amusing exercise in combining the names of players and beloved television shows. It’s seemed inevitable in the interim that #NBAMovies was soon to follow, and today teams finally made good on that certainty. Read More »

Nerlens Noel rocking the Reebok Classic Question Mid "First Ballot"

Before Nerlens Noel tore his ACL just 24 games into his freshman season at Kentucky, he was widely considered the favorite to be selected with the number 1 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. Instead, Phoenix took Anthony Bennett, and Noel fell to the New Orleans Pelicans with the No. 6 pick, before he was promptly traded to the Philadelphia 76ers for Jrue Holiday and a future protected first-round pick. He took all of 2013-14 off, and finally returned during summer league play last month. Dime caught up with the 6-10 Noel at Rucker Park for the EBC All-Stars Reebok event on Monday where he talked about his fantastic skinny pants and his return to the hardwood. Read More »

Transformation Tuesday: Joel Embiid Used To Be Very, Very Skinny

Joel Embiid

The brilliant social media antics of Philadelphia 76ers rookie Joel Embiid have made it easy to forget that he’s arguably the top talent of a loaded 2014 draft class. The two-way dominance Embiid flashed in his lone season at Kansas suggested far bigger things to come given his limited hoops background – the Yaounde, Cameroon native only began playing basketball at age 15. Just as tantalizing? Embiid was clearly still growing into his body during his freshman year in Lawrence, a reality driven home by photos he posted on Twitter earlier today and the Sixers’ #TransformationTuesday story. Last season news broke the Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets would debut a new idea from the NBA where they would replace the last names on the back of their uniform with a nickname of their own choosing. The 2014 NBA Draft has been hyped for a couple years now. Some think it’s right up there with the 2003 Draft that featured the likes of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Bosh. Others think it’s too early to tell what stars it might produce. Regardless, these rookies are already larger than life, so we thought it only appropriate to ask them during the 2014 NBA Rookie Shoot yesterday in Tarrytown, New York which superhero is their favorite.
