Every year around this time, basketball fans can look forward to exclusive team and player sneaker releases for March Madness. With the launch earlier this season of the new Air Jordan 2012, we knew they’d come up with some dope versions for their college teams during the NCAA Tournament. Turns out they came through once against with versions of the sneaker for UNC, Marquette and Cal. Read More »

LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Kobe Bryant might’ve been the headliners on this past Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game, but they weren’t the only ones putting in work. Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade did their thing as well. Perhaps they were low on the replay highlights, but each left his imprint on the game; Wade with only the third triple-double in All-Star Game history (24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists); and Paul with a game-high 12 dimes. No matter how much we try to compare players to him, there will never be another Michael Jordan. The way he transcended the game of basketball onto a global platform is unique to that of any individual athlete. Michael Jordan is the reason many of us love the game of basketball today. But aside from us basketball junkies, Jordan did the exact same for sneakerheads across the globe. With his legendary career & Tinker Hatfield’s mastermind design skills, Michael Jordan changed the shoe game forever. Through a span of about 15 years Jordan Brand emerged as the pinnacle of sneaker excellence. Read More »

Perhaps the Jordan Brand has truly bought into the Mayan Calendar hype about the world ending in December. How else to explain the rapid-fire string of incredibly coveted sneakers releasing this year? (If Jordan releases either the Black/Red or Columbia XIs during the holiday season as rumored, the resulting frenzy actually might constitute the end of the world.).
On the heels of the Concord XI and the Chicago X comes tonight’s release of the White/Cement IV, suitably arriving on Michael Jordan’s 49th birthday. Read More »

Austin Rivers must’ve known I was there because he tied the perfect bow to the end of a trip that started in Hoboken, New Jersey and ended with a once-defeaning crowd of 21,750 eerily silent. The buzzer beater that won it for Duke set off hysteria for the party behind Duke’s bench – Doc Rivers and his crew – but for the rest of us there, it was more quiet than the school’s library. If you’ve been keeping up with my posts the last few days, you know I was in New Jersey for the launch of the Air Jordan 2012, and that Jordan Brand also brought me down to Chapel Hill to see one of the biggest rivalries in all of basketball up close and personal. Well, that was ridiculous. Jordan Brand always does it up big, and they did it again today. For those of you who missed our first post from earlier in the day when we revealed your first official look at the Air Jordan 2012, I’m chilling in Hoboken, New Jersey and attended the official launch earlier today. They drove us out to this private air hangar – the Teterboro Airport – that had an enormous Jumpman logo plastered on the side, and it was on. A stage and behind that, a huge projector screen flipping through pictures of some of the most classic Jordans ever. Skee-Lo bumping. Even Tinker Hatfield was there – the greatest sneaker designer ever – for the official launch of the Air Jordan 2012. Read More »

How do you update a classic? If the Air Jordan VIII – released during the 1992-93 NBA season – traveled into the future, it would see its progeny in the Air Jordan 8.0. Featuring some structural upgrades like the breathable mesh panels and Flywire-laden crossing mid-foot straps, the Air Jordan 8.0 captures both the nostalgic flavor and new-age design that has been the formula for most of Jordan Brand’s non-retro releases over the last few years. But how did we get to this point? Let’s take a look at the evolution of the Air Jordan VIII. Read More »
