While it seems many people could care less that the Heat signed Carlos Arroyo yesterday to be their backup point guard, the deal only goes to signify to me once again that the role of the backup point guard is perhaps one of the most important in the League. It must be hard to be in the NBA when nobody wants you. Like Quentin Richardson this summer, or Jamaal Tinsley all last year when the Pacers emptied his locker and told him to stay away, sometimes you just don’t fit into a team’s plans. After back-to-back championships, you might say that the Florida Gators haven’t been playing too well for the past couple years. But you definitely can’t say that about Nick Calathes.
