So who’s ready for a sh*tstorm of drama over the Knicks (mis)handling of Carmelo Anthony’s knee injury? In this NY Daily News article, Frank Isola details the unsurprising lack of transparency the team employs with relaying information between their medical staff and the public, as well as the notion that ‘Melo’s knee injury is worse than previously thought. Isola talked to another orthopedic surgeon who speculates that ‘Melo Read More »

What makes NBA games so special and electrifying are the epic in-game dunks. Of course, we love the flashy passing and heart wrenching buzzer-beaters, but to be capsulated in a moment where someone gets posterized is beyond blissful. Let’s start by saying shout out to Brandon Knight as he valiantly didn’t give up on the play last night when he could have. He could have dodged DeAndre Jordan and let Lob City get away with another alley-oop. He didn’t. It’s okay. Read More »

The word “rival” is lost in the NBA today. Too often we see camaraderie between players on opposing teams. With the growing presence of AAU basketball, the players have gotten closer and closer.
AAU isn’t the only thing that brings the players together as one. The Olympic basketball experience has done it as well. Obviously when these guys are all on the same team, they must get along in some capacity, but the 2012 NBA champion Miami Heat were formed because of a rumored plan that was created during an Olympic run in 2008 by LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Julius Erving had a marketable nickname, incredible mid-air acrobatics and a flair for the dramatic. He was the first modern superstar. Even though he stopped dunking on centers’ heads 25 years ago, with his connection to the current NBA, it feels like Dr. J never really left. But now that the Philadelphia 76er legend is hooked on with the team as a Strategic Advisor, we can expect to see a whole lot more of the Doctor. Read More »

While different Philly hip-hop acts had been rocking the stage at 52nd Street and Market Street all afternoon long on Saturday at the Converse Block Party, the place wasn’t really set on fire until a couple of old area legends came back through to show some love. As big a hip-hop fan as I am, it had been a minute since I had listened to some Beanie Sigel and Freeway. But the two Philadelphia icons – along with Young Chris – came through as Stalley’s special guests for Saturday’s free block party to celebrate local street culture, basketball, music, and art in conjunction with the launch of the newest Converse Pro Leather collection. If you are at all influential in Philly’s street culture, you were at UBIQ Friday night to take in an invite-only party for the release of one of the industry’s most famous sneakers. Stalley hit the stage to perform, and DJ Young Guru laced the crowd all night with a lot of Jigga and State Property. Rappers Asher Roth, Chill Moody and Young Savage were in the house, as was boxer Henry Lundy. All well-known throughout the City of Brotherly Love, they all eventually took a backseat for Dr. J. Shaquille O’Neal will be returning to Hollywood, as he will be joining Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and Kevin James in the sequel to “Grown Ups,” creatively called “Grown Ups 2.” Shaq made a cameo appearance in Sandler’s recent box office bomb “Jack and Jill” and must have showcased some acting skills to Sandler that garnered him this role.
We all know Shaq is an actor extraordinaire, appearing in blockbuster films like “Kazaam” and “Steel.” It got us thinking what is the best movie performance by a NBA player? Read More »

Have you had enough of Wilt, Russell, Bird & Jordan? What am I saying? That’s impossible. They’ve helped make NBA 2K12 arguably the greatest basketball video game ever. As I’m sure most of you are deep into the Legends mode on 2K12, new downloadable content will soon be available for the first time ever that’ll enhance all of that even more. It’s called the “Legends Showcase” and it’s scheduled to be released this holiday season. It’ll feature all new content set in New York City’s iconic Time Square with a new, cell-shaded art style. When I had a chance to preview NBA 2K12 this week, I honestly came in ready for a let down. NBA 2K11 was out of this world, plain and simple. Without question the best sports game of the year, and arguably the best video game of the year. But even though the hype for 2012 was there, I wasn’t quite buying into it. Oh, how I was wrong.
