Thanks to the Palm Beach Post, it’s time for your daily edition of “random coaching hirings,” this time brought to you by none other than the Posnack Jewish Day School in Davie, Fla. So who did this high school hire to be their new basketball coach? Former NBA point guard Kenny Anderson, of course. Read More »

Upon leaving New York City for All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles, we knew there was a very good possibility that either the Knicks or Nets would pull off a deal, most likely involving Carmelo Anthony. But what transpired last week for both New York teams (yes, the Nets will soon be in Brooklyn) has been nothing short of astounding. Read More »

As time passes, the faces change, but the game stays the same. As a result, it’s easy to notice similarities between NBA players from different eras.
The Golden Age for me as a basketball fan was the early-1990s. Those days were filled with a lot of up-and-comers with plenty of style like Shaq, Penny and Kenny Anderson. Add to that the stars from the ’80s like Isiah, Michael and Hakeem who were able solidify their careers and win the ultimate prize within that period, and a host of other memorable characters. Before high school basketball became a presence on the Internet, superstars were created through news clippings, subjective rankings, and word-of-mouth. Kenny Anderson was one of those players from back in the day whose prep exploits generated tall tales of mythic proportions.
“Chibbs,” as he was known at Archbishop Molloy H.S. (Queens, N.Y.) in the late-1980s, was that dude. From the first day he laced up his sneaks as a freshman, stardom was written all over him. Read More »

With a another brand-new House of Hoops store opening in Long Island, N.Y., you knew a big name was going to be involved.
If you’re near L.I. this Saturday, drop by the House of Hoops grand opening at Roosevelt Field Mall to meet NBA All-Star and former high school national Player of the Year Kenny Anderson. The former New Jersey Net and NYC high school legend will be doing a Q&A in the store, and will be joined by some of the area’s top ballplayers and basketball figures. There will also be a DJ and giveaways.

As much as the Celtics are supposed to be struggling, and as much as I root for the Pacers, I’m just not seeing an upset special when Boston hosts Indiana tonight. The C’s have had a day to rest, an extra day to think about how they got booed by their own fans in a blowout loss to Memphis on Wednesday. Indiana is coming off a win over the Sixers, and they’re getting Danny Granger back from a one-game suspension, but still, my gut says a motivated Boston squad will make an example of the Pacers before Sunday’s potentially season-defining test at Cleveland. If you are in the New York City area this weekend, make sure to check out the Sharette Dixon Classic on Sunday, November 8 at Bishop Ford HS in Brooklyn. The charity basketball game will honor former St. John’s assistant coach Kimani Young’s late wife Sharette Dixon, a well respected former professor, and will raise money for her children’s education fund. The showcase will feature some of New York’s and New Jersey’s best high school players like Kyrie Irving, JayVaughn Pinkston and Tobias Harris. NYC Legends Kenny Smith and Kenny Anderson along will also be on hand to support. The Girls’ showcase will start at 4 am and the Guys’ showcase will take place at 6 pm.

#3: PAUL PIERCE, Boston Celtics
Between thanking God, his mama, and all of Chi-town and South Cack, Kevin Garnett made sure to remind the world that the 2008 NBA championship meant he was “certified.” Read More »

Are you ready for the dumbest NBA feud since Cheryl Miller and Scot Pollard got into a deathly intense, impromptu pissing contest in the “NBA Gametime” studio a few months ago? This one’s between Shaq and Steve Nash, and it started over Shaq’s reality show that nobody we know is currently watching. As the story goes, sometime last year when they were still teammates, Nash told Shaq about an idea he had for a reality show where he’d take on famous pro athletes in their own sports — a.k.a. the exact same concept of Shaq’s new show. (Which totally sounds like something Nash would do. He might even take a crack at some of those X-Games guys, and could play hockey with no danger of breaking the ice.) Read More »

While Dwight Howard takes a couple days to bask in the warm glowing warming glow of his first NBA Finals appearance — all before getting to the task of whipping himself into “Kill Bynum” mode — we still can’t get away from the LeBron talk. Even though it’s been standard fare for guys like Rasheed Wallace to get fined for skipping mandatory postseason press conferences, the League said they won’t fine LeBron for skipping his interviews after the Cavs were eliminated in Orlando. The reason? Read More »
