Elite Eight: College Basketball’s Top 8 Players In The Country

Kris Joseph

It’s finals week on many college campuses, which means it’s a good time to take a look at which players are in the lead for National Player of the Year. It’s only six weeks into the season, so don’t worry if your favorite player (Austin Rivers?) isn’t listed quite yet.

Some of these names aren’t the standard fare, but rest assured, you’ll likely be seeing these names as March approaches. Rather than a traditional Top 10, I’ve chosen to go with a Top 8 to reflect a coaches’ regular rotation. Read More »

Monday Madness: College Basketball’s Weekend In Review

Jordan Taylor

It takes a full-time job, or a full-time class schedule, for one to truly appreciate a four-day weekend. And when those two extra days off come courtesy the Thanksgiving holiday, the full-time college basketball fan (or writer) goes into overtime mode.

Just about every D-I team in the country seemed to be playing in a holiday tournament this past weekend – from the balmy paradise of the Bahamas to the cold-ass bustle of New York City on Black Friday. That should get your juices flowing for the season to start – players schmoozing players, guys using anything in their power to get a leg up on the competition, shamelessly trying to assemble a roster capable of winning a championship. Wisconsin avoids major upset

Wisconsin's Trevon Hughes

*Dime’s NCAA Tournament Day 2 coverage*

Most likely because Trevon Hughes was the hero for Wisconsin last year — when his game-winner got them past Florida State in the first round — it was like he tried too hard to be the hero this time around.

As the 4th-seeded Badgers were getting everything they could handle from 13-seed Wofford today, Hughes went into Allen Iverson mode down the stretch, primarily looking for his own shot and jacking up some that were pretty terrible. Read More »

Two College Kids Had Trouble Sleeping Last Night

Besides from losing their games last night, N.C. State’s Javier Gonzalez and Mizzou’s Kim English had to go to sleep also thinking about the vicious dunks that Virginia’s Mustapha Farrakhan and Texas A&M’s Ray Turner gave them. Read More »
