Last week, there was a heated debate going on in the comment section of our site whether Pau Gasol deserved to be an All-Star this season. While a lot of people defended the Lakers’ center, there was A LOT of resentment towards Gasol by our readers. One reader, Mark, wrote this:
“Anybody who says Gasol deserves to be in the All Star over Z-Bo or Kaman probably voted for Allen Iverson to be a starter. Gasol’s good personal stats in consideration, I don’t see anybody missing 40% of the season (as of today) deserving of an All Star slot.”

Whether you love Kobe Bryant or hate him, one thing nobody can question about him is his heart. Dude wants to win so bad, he’d attempt to play with a broken leg if he had to. But sometimes you wonder, how much is enough for Kobe? He reached his limit a couple of night’s ago against the Spurs, when back spasms proved to be too painful for the 31-year-old superstar. He missed the entire fourth quarter and the Lakers ended up losing 105-85 (their fourth straight road loss). His back problems are just one of the half-dozen injuries he has dealt with in recent weeks. Read More »

Arguably, the ’96 Chicago Bulls are the greatest team of all-time. You had (again, arguably) the greatest player of all-time in Michael Jordan, a top 50 NBA player in Scottie Pippen, one of the greatest rebounders of all-time with Dennis Rodman and the Zen Master himself, Phil Jackson, roaming the sidelines. Then you have their 72-10 record (best in NBA history) and the fact that they won the championship that year – the first of three. It’s hard to build a case why they aren’t the best squad ever. Pau Gasol has only played in 50 percent of the games this year, yet his impact has been greater than most of the guys who have played the entire season. After missing the first 11 games with a hamstring injury, Gasol came back and immediately helped the Lakers win 10 straight games. The team is now 12-1 since the All-Star forward returned to the lineup. Read More »

A few years back, Ron Artest used to write a monthly column in Dime called “Ask Ron.” Fans could write in and ask Ron-Ron anything about basketball and life. A lot of our readers came to Artest for relationship advice. One of our favorite submissions was when someone asked, “Yo, Ron, I recently broke off an engagement with my ex. Should I get the ring back? – E” Read More »

“Soprano the rock, handle like Van Exel” – Jay-Z
There was a reason why Hova would name drop Nick Van Exel’s name in a verse. Nick the Quick was everything you wanted out of a small guard: a smooth south paw stroke, crafty dribble moves, great court vision and money in the clutch. And best of all, everything he did, he did it with style. Read More »

When Andrew Bynum told the media last month that he could be an All-Star this season, it’s fair to say that not a lot of people probably took him seriously. But so far in the preseason, the fifth-year center is backing up his words by averaging 20.4 ppg, 7.4 rpg and 1.2 bpg in the Lakers’ first five contests. If the preseason is any indication of things to come, than the rest of the league should be very worried. Read More »

I’ve always been a fan of old stadiums and arenas. To me, nothing beats seeing a game at the Garden or sitting in the sun watching the Cubs at Wrigley Field. I think sports venues with history and tradition have more character and makes attending games more meaningful. Nowadays, it’s all about luxury boxes, waterslides in the outfield and Hard Rock Cafe’s inside the arenas. I know it’s business, but I’m kind of indifferent to new arenas. Read More »
