The 3 Worst Arguments Against NBA Super Teams

LeBron James, Dwyane Wade & Chris Bosh

There are few groups that look better alone. Wu-Tang was the exception. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx. Supreme Clientele. Liquid Swords. Ironman. Tical. I could say they got lucky. History points to luck. But The Chef, Ghost, Method Man, ODB and all the rest, if you put that many unique and wild imaginations into one pot, the resulting chemistry is almost too much. Explosive. Each one of them needed their own spotlight. They all needed to branch out, explore their inner Shaolin, get down with other crews, see how far they could push their style. Word is bond. Read More »

The Top 10 Assists In NBA History

Rajon Rondo

A nice dish may be the most underrated play in basketball. Obsessing over a dunk or a crossover is common, but how often do you really see a one-of-a-kind assist? Very rarely. They’re always overblown and overhyped. A no-look pass is almost never that. We almost never get a truly breathtaking pass because lets face it, no one practices passing. Kids go to the gym and work on ballhandling for hours – crossovers, behind-the-backs and through-the-legs. Then some Plyometrics or squats because we all want to dunk and we all want to walk into a gym and get instant cred. No one respects a pass; Everyone respects a dunk. Read More »

Rivalries Renewed: New York Knicks vs. Boston Celtics

Knicks-Celtics

The NBA tends to come full circle. I mean, did we ever think that after the Mavericks watched the Heat celebrate on their home floor that they would come back to South Beach a mere five years later and return the favor? Did we ever think that the great Phil Jackson could have even had a chance to win 12 titles, coaching two different teams in three different decades? But the NBA has been around a long time, and while we may not have anything on a Red Sox–Yankees level, there are several matchups that come back to rear their ugly head, again and again, kind of like a bad Freddy vs. Jason movie. In honor of this week’s Sox-Yanks series, here is one of our favorite rivalries, Knicks vs. Celtics, which has been renewed from decade to decade. Read More »

Dime’s Definitive NBA 2K12 Preview

NBA 2K12

When I had a chance to preview NBA 2K12 this week, I honestly came in ready for a let down. NBA 2K11 was out of this world, plain and simple. Without question the best sports game of the year, and arguably the best video game of the year. But even though the hype for 2012 was there, I wasn’t quite buying into it. Oh, how I was wrong. The hype for NBA 2K11 was insane last year. But they might’ve done the impossible this time, and topped it again. Not only will Michael Jordan be back, but so will some of his friends. All of the NBA legends in this game will be meticulously created with era-specific arenas, uniforms, accurate broadcast presentation (which means the old games will look, well, old) and signature shots. We Reminisce: Hakeem Olajuwon’s Lost Finals

Hakeem Olajuwon

An essential element in the cult of Michael Jordan is the fact that the man never lost an NBA Finals. It’s how we choose to remember him: Perfect. 6-0 in the endgame. Unassailable. In doing so, we place him in the tiniest of circles, that being multiple champions who never lost a title. Read More »

Vince Carter Wants Some Love

Vince Carter

Vince Carter may realize that his time in Phoenix is pretty much up – how short it was – but he still wants to play ball. Not overseas. Not in a rec league. In the NBA. At 34 years old, Carter wants to eventually do some commentating, but for now he wants a few more years with a contender. If you’re the Mavs, the Lakers, the Thunder, the Celtics, the Heat, the Bulls, the Spurs, the Hawks, the Magic or anyone else who wins a decent number of games, would you sign him? The big thing with VC is, most teams would welcome having a vet who can still get you 20 here and there, and you know you can count on him to give you 12-15 a night off the bench. That’s a luxury in pretty much any case. Read More »

Breaking News: Jordan, Bird & Magic On NBA 2K12 Covers

Michael Jordan

Trying to create a buzz, 2K Sports took to Twitter with this the other day: “Want to see NBA cover? When 100K different people tweet #NBA2K12, the NBA 2K12 Cover will be revealed.” And while the most common guesses were Derrick Rose, Dirk Nowitzki, Blake Griffin and the Big Three, it turns out it’s none of the above. That’s right, 2K Sports has just announced that NBA 2K12 will offer not one, not two, but three separate covers for the game featuring legends Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. The NBA’s Best Decade? The 1980s

Larry Bird, Magic Johnson

This is the first post in a three-part series we will be running today on the best decade in NBA history. Was it the 1980s? The 1990s? Or the 2000s? Can you make the arguments that one of the earlier decades was even better? Sure. But not likely. Can you make an argument that one of these three was the best ever? Of course. And that’s what we’re doing…

The 1980’s was a wild decade. Bon Jovi dominated the charts. Wall Street was booming. I was conceived. But other than all that great stuff, it was the best decade for the NBA. If the 1970s had the best style of basketball and the ’90s featured the best players, the ’80s was the happy medium between the two. Although I was only alive for one year of it, I know that 1980’s basketball was a beautiful thing – a true incarnation of American glitz and glamour that defined the decade. Read More »
