The Philadelphia 76ers have fantasy value pretty evenly spread across each position on their roster – except for the center spot. While there’s no outright stud, the Sixers have plenty of appeal throughout the middle and late rounds of standard-sized drafts. Read More »
After leading Washington to back-to-back conference titles in the Pac-10 Tournament over the last two seasons, junior Isaiah Thomas (who also claimed back-to-back conference MOP honors in those same title runs) decided the time was right to test his talents on another level: the NBA. During his time in Seattle, the 5-9 guard was nothing short of an offensive force. After averaging 16.9 points and 3.9 assists a game as a sophomore, he returned this season to drop 16.8 and 6.1 per and navigate UW to a Sweet Sixteen appearance in the NCAA Tournament. And as the kid embarks on his journey away from college and into the pros, we wanted to give him his own space, and voice, to roam. So, follow along with Isaiah on his Dime NBA Draft Diary and the start to his journey as a member of the Sacramento Kings…Read More »
A member of two championship football teams – one collegiate and one pro – Jermichael Finley has been a winner at every level. But despite boasting countless pigskin achievements on his résumé, the Green Bay Packers tight end still attributes his success on the football field to the fundamentals he picked up on the hardwood with his Houston Hoops AAU team. Not to take a dump on ESPN’s Friday doubleheader featuring Spurs vs. Mavs and Blazers vs. Suns, but was there really any doubt that last night’s true must-see matchup was Warriors vs. Clippers? Forget the win-loss records: Blake Griffin and Monta Ellis might actually hail from planets other than ours, Stephen Curry and Eric Gordon are walking clinics on the art of deadly buckets, and the Golden State crowd is always fun, especially on a night where they’d be welcoming back Baron Davis … Read More »
His star-making postseason debut series aside, Derrick Rose had kind of established a script recently whenever he faced the Boston Celtics. The most explosive point guard in the League wouldn’t do anything too spectacular, his counterpart Rajon Rondo would slap up an easy double-double while flirting with 20 assists, and the Bulls would lose in uninspiring fashion. Last night, D-Rose thankfully flipped the script and reignited that Rose/Rondo rivalry we all want to see … Rose dropped 36 points and the Bulls’ interior defense stepped up in crunch time as Chicago snapped Boston’s four-game win streak. If you don’t follow Lou Williams on Twitter, you’re missing out. The dude is hilarious! Take for example his tweet from two hours ago: “Think i should send you a reminder…here it is…” The following YouTube clip was included. Sorry, ‘Bron.
Don’t act surprised. While Kobe Bryant‘s first game back from an almost three-week layoff had other interesting story lines — Andrew Bynum returning to his personal Waterloo (Memphis), the Grizzlies trying to stay above .500 and in the playoff picture, the Gasol vs. Gasol matchup — in the end it was all about K.O.B.E. On his way to an efficient 32 points (13-19 FG), Kobe scored the last nine for the Lakers, including a game-tying three with just under a minute to go. After Rudy Gay responded with a J to give Memphis the lead, it came down to L.A. trailing by two with the ball and eight seconds left … Read More »
The Detroit broadcast of last night’s Pistons/Cavs game had one of those text-in polls: Who is the Pistons’ perfect rival: Cavs or Celtics? One announcer argued it was the Cavs, “whether they want to admit it or not.” After re-signing Ben Wallace, sticking to the idea that Rip Hamilton could lead them to the promised land, being hesitant to start an official rebuilding project, and thinking last year’s team would have been a contender if not for Allen Iverson, that statement was probably the greatest indication that Detroit is living in the past. The Cavs ain’t worried about the Pistons; they’ve got real contenders in their path. Read More »
If you were ever going to forgive a guy for committing double-digit turnovers in one game, forgive Monta Ellis for his 11 miscues last night. With the majority of Golden State’s roster out of action (including Nellie, who has pneumonia) Monta was one of three guys who played all 48 minutes against Dallas and led the Warriors to a win. Anthony Morrow and Vlad Rad also put in a full night’s work, as fill-in coach Keith Smart used just six players. Smart looks like he could’ve put on some kicks and dropped a few baseline jumpers, but that’s probably against some rule … Read More »
