NBA Rookies: My Secret Life

While I was at the NBA Rookie Photo Shoot in August, I was able to get up with all 40 NBA rookies in attendance and ask them each five questions. All 30 first rounders were there (except No. 17 Kevin Seraphin who was getting his visa), as well as 10 second round picks and undrafted Jeremy Lin. Watch as they tell DimeTV one thing that most people don’t know about them.

Derrick Favors on fixing the Nets, his new car, and winning NBA Rookie of the Year

Derrick Favors at Georgia Tech

Derrick Favors at Georgia Tech

Ever since he first emerged on the basketball scene as a promising teenager, Derrick Favors has been, as they say in the industry, “an adidas guy.” Following in the footsteps of fellow Atlanta native and pro three-striper Dwight Howard, Favors was a staple at adidas camps during his time at South Atlanta High School, where he grew into one of the top prep players in the country. In fact, when Favors appeared on the cover of Dime #34 (Summer 2007), it was from a photo shoot alongside Tyreke Evans, Lance Stephenson, Jrue Holiday and Luke Babbitt at the inaugural adidas Nations elite summer program. One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Treasure: The David Kahn Story

You can’t really blame David Kahn. Bad decisions are all he has ever known.

It started back when he was a sportswriter covering the Portland Trail Blazers for The Oregonian in the 1980s, when Kahn witnessed maybe the worst NBA Draft decision in history. After the Blazers took Sam Bowie with the second overall pick (ahead of Michael Jordan) in 1984, a penchant for horrible decisions had clearly been forever engraved in the young journalist. D-Wade (photo. Jeffery Salter)

Yeah, we’re talking about That Dude in Miami, but no, it’s not Rick Ross. For a brief moment on Sunday, Dwyane Wade took LeBron‘s spot as the NBA’s biggest lightning rod for criticism before avoiding the full brunt of an big controversy … Wade was initially quoted in an interview saying, “If we lose a couple in a row this season, it will be like the World Trade is coming down again.” Not long after that hit the airwaves, though, the news source in question retracted and admitted Wade was misquoted. Making a Point in Miami

LeBron James

Should LeBron play point guard for the Heat? Can LeBron play the point? The answer to the second question could make the first question moot, but with the pool of potential starting PG’s in free agency pretty much dry, Erik Spoelstra has to make sure LeBron isn’t a better option over Mario Chalmers and Carlos Arroyo (who is talking to Miami about re-signing). LeBron came into the NBA hyped as another Magic, but after seven years as his team’s primary scorer and probably losing some of that automatic trust he had in his teammates from high school, can he move to point guard right now? Conspiracy Theory

Miami Heat poster

You knew this was coming: Once D-Wade, LeBron and Bosh essentially formed a super-squad on their own, accusations of tampering and collusion would arise. NBA owners will reportedly meet today to check it out and determine whether there was something shady going on between the three superstars — which Bosh didn’t help when he slipped up and said he and ‘Bron and Wade had been talking about a collaboration for “months.” Rules aside, though, what’s really wrong with players talking about whether they’d like to play together?
