NBA Rookies: My Pick For Rookie of the Year

While I was at the NBA Rookie Photo Shoot in August, I was able to get up with all 40 NBA rookies in attendance and ask them each five questions. All 30 first rounders were there (except No. 17 Kevin Seraphin who was getting his visa), as well as 10 second round picks and undrafted Jeremy Lin. Watch as they tell DimeTV who their pick is for Rookie of the Year.

Celtics and Heat gear up for 7-game showdown

Kevin Garnett

Kevin Garnett, Dime #30

Apparently the Celtics and Heat are in a competition to set the record for having the most players in training camp and under contract. Yesterday the Celtics extended camp invites to Mario West (Hawks), Stephane Lasme (UMass), Chris Johnson (LSU) and Jamar Smith (Southern Indiana), bringing their preliminary roster count to approximately 47. It’s gonna look like ABCD Camp the first few days before Doc Rivers starts making cuts … With every new guy Boston brings in, Luke Harangody has to be getting more nervous. He’s likely going to be the slowest, least-athletic guy in camp, which is bad if you’re 12th in line, but worse if you’re 20th in line. Read More »

The New Raptors

DeMar DeRozan

We’re not predicting playoffs of anything, but the Toronto Raptors might not be as tragic as you would’ve thought in the post-Chris Bosh era. Clearly the eyes are on the future, and T-Dot has a nice young nucleus with Andrea Bargnani, DeMar DeRozan, Ed Davis and Sonny Weems. (And maybe Amir Johnson.) DeRozan and Weems had a little Vince/T-Mac vibe going at the Vegas Summer League, Davis has also shown potential going against pros, and Bargnani is coming off a season where he averaged 17 points and got some experience as the No. 1 option in meaningful games when Bosh was hurt. 10 Rookies (not named Wall or Turner) Who Will Make an Impact

Gordon Hayward

Gordon Hayward at Butler

In the Dime office for the past couple weeks we have been watching NBA summer league basketball. I’ve gotten a chance to see most of the rookies play, and here are the 10 rookies — minus first and second overall picks John Wall and Evan Turner — I think will have the biggest impact next season after watching them go to work in the Orlando and Las Vegas leagues: Read More »

M-I-Yayo: Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh out to build an empire

Dwyane Wade

Dwyane Wade (photo. Mannion)

Only one thing was going to overshadow the eve of LeBron‘s big free-agency announcement: The No. 2 and No. 3 most coveted free agents in the 2010 class deciding to team up and take a crack at becoming the new Drexler and Hakeem. In case you missed it, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh are committed to the Miami Heat — Wade presumably accepting a reported six-year, $125 million offer, while Bosh will either sign a deal outright or be part of a sign-and-trade with the Raptors … Read More »

Top 5 Biggest NBA Draft Winners

Willie Warren (photo. Ty Russell/University of Oklahoma)

When I was leaving Madison Square Garden last night two things were running through my mind: 1) I needed to get some food in my body, and 2) The Celtics are going to have the best defensive backcourt in the League. But as with any Draft Night, no everyone goes home happy. For every Gordon Hayward and Paul George, there are guys like Tiny Gallon, who sat idly in the stands at the WaMu Theater waiting to hear their name called. But this post is all about the winners, so without further ado, here are the Top 5 NBA Draft Winners from last night. Read More »
