I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need. Bad times are comin’ and I reap what I don’t sow/hey hey/Well let me tell you somthin’ all that glitters ain’t gold

Yes, this is indeed an Aloe Blacc/How to Make It in America reference. What better way to explain the conflicting futures of an institution caught off guard by losing two of its star players to the NBA earlier than expected, and said players on the verge of making bank in the upcoming months? Today the world will find out if Jabari Parker will remain a Duke Blue Devil for his sophomore season, or continue the path of fellow freshmen Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid by declaring for the 2014 NBA Draft. (The Chicago Tribune, however, which is Parker’s hometown newspaper, is reporting the freshman is still unsure about his plans.) To think that we’re only three weeks away from the start of the playoffs; the special time of year where all of the “It’s only the regular season talk” stifles and the “Win or go home” mantra begins. While 16 teams prepare their final rosters and create the lineups they believe will lead them to a title, the other 14 plan for the draft, as they wait to see where the ping-pong balls bounce this year. Kevin Canevari

Kevin Canevari (Bob Donnan/USA TODAY Sports)

This past weekend was one to remember in college basketball. The Madness always brings us excitement and this year was no different. The first Thursday and Friday of the tournament may be the best day in sports and can leave your bracket busted before you even reach the third round. Bobby Knight Says The NBA “Raped” College Basketball

Jim Nance, Bobby Knight

One-and-done has become the normal trajectory for the top players in men’s college basketball after the NBA instituted an age requirement for eligibility in their Draft. The change has led to a lot of self-righteous indignation on the part of “educators,” believing the NBA offers a poor substitute for a college degree. That argument is the same that led to the NBA’s age requirement in the first place. But now, with the NBA set to debate the NBPA — whenever they decide to elect an executive director to replace Billy Hunter — about increasing that age requirement to 20 years of age, and the wide open NBA futures of some of the top players in this year’s freshman class, it’s opened the floodgates on the debate once again. Bobby Knight has walked right through that newly open terrain with his recent comments that the NBA has “raped” college basketball. Read More »

Okay, so maybe this year’s NBA Draft class isn’t quite as good as we thought. There are no LeBrons. No KDs. There might not even be a D-Wade in here. The class from 2003 is much better, and let’s not even go into discussions concerning the ’96 class or 1984. With that being said, there is a ton of talent, and we also have to remember: it’s not even April yet. With so many young players coming out, we can guarantee your opinion of them will be drastically different once we get closer to the summer. Read More »

A Breakdown Of 7 Major Conference Tournaments

T.J. Warren

T.J. Warren (Charles LeClaire/USA TODAY Sports)

Many may argue conference tournament week is better than the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament. Every team in the country still has an opportunity of making the Dance at the start of the week, but as the days go by, more and more dreams are crushed. Teams have to win three, four and sometimes five straight games in as many days to claim an automatic bid in the field of 68. Read More »
