The NBA tends to come full circle. I mean, did we ever think that after the Mavericks watched the Heat celebrate on their home floor that they would come back to South Beach a mere five years later and return the favor? Did we ever think that the great Phil Jackson could have even had a chance to win 12 titles, coaching two different teams in three different decades? But the NBA has been around a long time, and while we may not have anything on a Red Sox–Yankees level, there are several matchups that come back to rear their ugly head, again and again, kind of like a bad Freddy vs. Jason movie. In honor of this week’s Sox-Yanks series, here is one of our favorite rivalries, Knicks vs. Celtics, which has been renewed from decade to decade. Read More »

Blake Griffin is a beast. But you already knew that. Hopefully by the end of Friday night, those who don’t have NBA League Pass and have only been exposed to Blake Superior’s rookie brilliance got to see how beastly DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall can be … For the second straight year, the Rookies beat the Sophomores in the All-Star Rookie Challenge, but this may have been the first time it wasn’t an upset. Blake did his thing, finishing with 14 points in 13 minutes, pretty much all of it on dunks. Read More »

We’ve been spoiled the past two years with ridiculous Hall of Fame crops: Michael Jordan, John Stockton, David Robinson and Jerry Sloan in 2009, followed by Karl Malone, Scottie Pippen and the 1992 Dream Team in 2010. With that said, this has now opened the door for superstars left on the ballot to finally break through. Today, NBA.com’s Scott Howard-Cooper unveiled the nominees for the 2011 Hall of Fame class, but we’ll leave it up to you to decide. Here we go: Read More »

Before the Chicago Bulls prepare their plan of attack for landing Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh or any other free agent on their summer shopping list, reportedly they’ve got another piece of business to take care of.
According to the Chicago Tribune, second-year head coach Vinny Del Negro will be fired on Tuesday. This despite Del Negro leading the Bulls to the playoffs in each of his first two years and giving the Celtics and Cavs, respectively, tougher series than most analysts expected. Read More »

Last week we examined where Paul Pierce fits into the hierarchy of all-time Boston Celtics. Yesterday, in the hours leading up to Allen Iverson‘s second coming to the Sixers, reader Shaw32 asked where A.I. fits into Philly’s royal family.
Unlike Pierce, there shouldn’t be an argument against Iverson at least being in the discussion as possibly the greatest Sixer of all-time. Read More »

These days, the business of basketball is good for the Portland Trail Blazers. However, not too long ago, the City of Roses tagged their only pro sports team by another name: the Jail Blazers.
The era of the Jail Blazers is an interesting and lengthy time period, through which it extends from J.R. Rider’s heyday, until really 2005. Whereas, the Blazers had been branded with this label for a while, I chose to further examine Burnside’s best from ’01 through the ’04 season. Read More »
