Nothing hurts more than losing your spot at the gym because you lost to a bunch of random dudes. That’s what happened to the Lakers last night in Milwaukee. With Stephen Jackson corporate thuggin’ it off-court (suspended for verbal abuse of an official), Andrew Bogut out with his yearly injury and Brandon Jennings playing more passively than at any point over the past month, the Lakers took body blows from Drew Gooden, Mike Dunleavy and Ersan Ilyasova before finally falling 100-89. As we wrote in Smack, all signs pointed towards an easy Miami Heat win last night against Milwaukee. Problem is, there were far too many instances of a Heat player being incredibly lazy than there were of stuff like this: LeBron James treating Mike Dunleavy like he was a baby. Dunleavy played all of eight minutes, hit one shot, grabbed two rebounds and had one steal… and also caught a dunked basketball in the face. Things change quickly in the NBA. At the beginning of last season, T.J. Ford and Brandon Rush made up the Indiana Pacers’ starting backcourt on Opening Night. Today, both Ford and Rush are falling out of Indy’s rotation, and very well could be available for whoever wants them as the February trade deadline approaches.
Ford, the 8th-year pro who was once upon a time was knocking on the door as maybe a top-10 point guard in the NBA, has been in and out of coach Jim O’Brien‘s doghouse throughout his tenure with the Pacers. Read More »

Jason Boone is a friend of the Dime family, but more relevant to this space, a center/power forward for BG Göttingen of the German pro basketball league. Today, Jason’s team is playing Besiktas Cola Turka — better known as Allen Iverson‘s squad. The NBA is all business – both literally and figuratively. Players are shipped around from team to team and sometimes viewed more as commodities than human beings. With that unchangeable fact, players have to be all business with their play on the court, and are forced to become heartless go-getters in order to keep their jobs.
