It wasn’t exactly reaching Malice at the Palace levels, but the brawl that spilled into the stands last night during Indiana’s 108-97 win over the Warriors will certainly result in some special spankings from the league office. And you’re never gonna believe this, but David West was right in the middle of it. Read More »

Too soon? Maybe. Yesterday morning, we finished off Spain in a game that was entirely too close for comfort after Team USA smoked everyone else throughout the Olympics. Now, just 24 hours later, the gold medal celebration has worn off and we can start looking forward to 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Read More »

The men’s basketball tournament at the Olympics has been the running story throughout the entire, 16-day extravaganza. Whether because of the proposed age limit that in fact won’t be place by Rio in 2016 or the hoops itself, basketball has been the storyline you can count on. And within that arc was one more, even steadier story: The United States was cleaning up this tournament. The lonely exception was a five-point pool play win over Lithuania. Read More »

If you have been watching any of Team USA throughout the Olympic tournament you may have noticed that Nike’s logo is virtually everywhere, from their jerseys to their shoes. Basically every single player on the team is sponsored by Nike or Jordan Brand. The exception is Kevin Love, who signed a contract with Chinese shoe company 361 Degrees at the start of this past season. Read More »

Coming off the high from Alex Morgan‘s “Miracle On Grass,” we were more than hyped for the inevitably memorable Team USA/Argentina matchup. Lithuania pushed the Yanks, but no one ever truly believed they’d win, and even if by some lucky bounce that they actually did, it would’ve been chalked up as merely a bad night rather than a sign of things to come. But Argentina? They’re legit. They showed it for a while against Team USA too, until LeBron James and Kevin Durant (28 points) decided to take their games to a level no one else on the world can reach. Read More »

There are the Olympic basketball tournaments, and all the sideshows around them. From releases of sneakers to clothes with Dream Team or national team themes, to all the talk about what if the tournament becomes a U-23 showcase, it’s refreshing to actually sit back and watch the games themselves. New videos by Nike, which has contracts with all but one of the men’s players and several of the women, take us directly to the players’ point of view about what it’s like to play on the senior national team. The last time USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo wanted to secure a coaching commitment from Mike Krzyzewski, he had a pizza and a bottle of wine with the Duke coach. After winning gold in 2008 in Beijing, Colangelo needed to get Coach K to coach again in 2012 to mirror the commitments many of the players had made. Colangelo joked with reporters that he’ll try the same meal again after London regarding 2016′s head coaching spot, but don’t think it’s a formality the 65-year-old will accept. Read More »
